Steward's Report
Penelopes Cruzn, Aeroplane Bob and Flying Merkel were slow to begin. Penelopes Cruzn and Aeroplane Bob collided soon after the start. Keep Warm checked off Fizzy Bale soon after the start. Fizzy Bale and Shake 'Em Off collided soon after the start checking Fizzy Bale. Shake 'Em Off, Steel The Best and Mississippi Girl collided approaching the first turn. Fizzy Bale and Flying Merkel collided approaching the first turn checking Penelopes Cruzn and Aeroplane Bob; Keep Warm raced wide as a result. Fizzy Bale and Flying Merkel collided on the second turn. Shake 'Em Off and Flying Merkel collided approaching the third turn. Flying Merkel marred the running of Steel The Best approaching the winning post.
Flying Merkel was vetted following the event. It was reported that the greyhound sustained an injury to its right triangle. A 5 day stand down period was imposed.
Stewards spoke to Mr. B. Shillington, the trainer of the greyhound Flying Merkel regarding the greyhound's racing manners approaching the winning post. Acting under GAR 69(1) stewards charged Flying Merkel with marring. Mr. Shillington pleaded not guilty to the charge. Flying Merkel was found guilty and the greyhound was suspended for 3 months (all tracks) and it was directed that the greyhound perform a Satisfactory Trial (all tracks), pursuant to GAR 69(2)(b), before any future nomination will be accepted.
