Due to FastTrack issues kennels closed approximately 7 minutes late.
Allen Membo was a late scratching at 8:43AM due to illness (GAR 23). A 10 day stand down period was imposed. Stewards will require a veterinary certificate before any future nomination will be accepted.
The start of this race was delayed one and a half minutes due to the running of an interstate harness race.
Idaho Bale and Hello Bekim were quick to begin. Miss Nicastro was slow to begin. Miracle checked off Polijuice Potion soon after the start. Idaho Bale and Polijuice Potion collided on the first turn. Leroy Tron checked off Miracle on the first turn. Polijuice Potion, Idaho Bale and Miracle collided on the second turn, checking Idaho Bale and Polijuice Potion.
Miss Nicastro was vetted following the event. It was reported that there was no apparent injury found.
Stewards spoke to Mr. B. Bonaccurso, the trainer of the greyhound Miss Nicastro. Stewards deemed the performance of Miss Nicastro unsatisfactory in this event and acting in accordance with GAR 71, Stewards directed that Miss Nicastro must perform a Satisfactory Trial (all tracks) before any future nomination will be accepted.
Stewards also questioned Mr. Bonaccurso with regard to the increase of distance Miss Nicastro raced over in todays event. Miss Nicastro has previously raced over 311m. Mr Bonaccurso stated that the greyhound had trialled over 515m at Sandown before today's race and felt, in his opinion, Miss Nicastro would be competitive. He added that he was disappointed with the greyhound's performance today.
