Steward's Report
Stewards spoke to Mr. J. Sharp the handler of Desert Spike regarding the length of time the greyhound has had between races. Desert Spike last raced on 25th of April, 2016. Mr. Sharp stated that the greyhound is returning to race after being new to the kennel. Mr. Sharp also declared a new weight of 25.3kgs for the greyhound in accordance with GAR 39(2). Desert Spike last raced at 23.7kgs.
A pre-race sample was taken from Doodle Bug Jay.
Beyond The Vally and Pingu were slow to begin. Suspicious Pete and Desert Spike collided soon after the start causing Desert Spike to brush the running rail. Marodo and Suspicious Pete collided approaching the first turn. Suspicious Pete, Marodo and Pingu collided on the first turn checking Marodo and Pingu. Suspicious Pete and Marodo collided approaching the home turn. Marodo, Suspicious Pete and Pingu collided approaching the home turn checking Suspicious Pete. Desert Spike, Marodo, Suspicious Pete and Pingu collided entering the home straight. Pingu and Marodo collided in the home straight.
Suspicious Pete was vetted following the event. It was reported that the greyhound sustained an injury to its right shoulder and various minor lacerations. A 3 day stand down period was imposed.
