Landmark was slow to begin. Argyle and Proven Chops collided several times soon after the start. Staggerlicious, Argyle Lucifer, Proven Chops and Paula's Delight collided soon after the start, checking Staggerlicious. Ultimate Billy, Paula's Delight and Argyle Lucifer collided soon after the start, checking Proven Chops. Paula's Delight, Pomp Fiction, Argyle Lucifer, Landmark and Ultimate Billy collided approaching the first turn. Proven Chops checked off Staggerlicious approaching the first turn. Proven Chops checked off Staggerlicious approaching the first turn. Argyle Lucifer galloped on the heels of Paula's Delight approaching the first turn, severely checking Paula's Delight which stumbled as a result. Proven Chops checked off Paula's Delight on the first turn, severely checking both greyhounds.
