A pre-race swab sample was taken from Mercury Arc. Dyna Redbull and Blinman Hero were slow out. Maddi Keysy crossed to the rails soon after the start checking Awesome Jack, Dyna Redbull and Victorian. Mercury Arc faltered approaching the first turn. Amos Flex checked off the heels of Fenceline on the first turn and fell as a result. Awesome Jack checked off the heels of Fenceline on the third turn. Mercury Arc was vetted following the Event and after being revetted, Dr. Raquel Newman, the Club's Veterinary Surgeon, reported that the greyhound sustained injuries to the left thigh and back muscle and recommended the greyhound be stood down from competing for 10 days. Stewards spoke to Trainer, Ms. C. Jones, as to their concerns with the performance of Mercury Arc, particularly on the first turn, however, took into consideration the injuries sustained to the greyhound and the comments tendered by Ms. Jones. Stewards also took into consideration the racing history of Mercury Arc and took no further action. Amos Flex was also vetted following the Event and Dr. Newman reported that the greyhound sustained soreness to the right saddle muscle. No stand down penalty was applied.
