Meeting Comments:

The Stewards were advised that the track was harrowed to a depth of 75mm on 13 April 2024.

Trainer Mr. Geoffrey Scott-Smith was issued with a fine to the amount of $100.00, in accordance with GAR 86 & LR 39.1, regarding kennelling greyhounds after the appointed closing time. As a result, the kennels closed at 5:40pm.

Kiptum was quick to begin. 

A post-race sample was taken from Kiptum - the winner of the event. 

Oh Lana was quick to begin. Weeona Star was slow to begin. 

Tiger Jordy and Ruby And Rice were quick to begin. 

Mepunga Surprise (fell in the front straight on the first occasion) underwent a post-race veterinary examination and was found to have a left monkey muscle injury. A 5 day stand down period was imposed. 

Stewards noted that the muzzle of Sparkling Rose became partially dislodged during the running of the event, subsequently causing the greyhound to race ungenerously approaching the winning post.

A pre-race sample was taken from Jeremy Spoke.

Louie, Crackerjack Boom and Irish Millie were quick to begin. Jeremy Spoke, Ethanol Unleaded and Internal Affairs were slow to begin. 

Ethanol Unleaded underwent a post-race veterinary examination and was found to have a right sartorius muscle injury. A 5 day stand down period was imposed. Stewards spoke to Trainer Mr. Patrick Furci regarding the greyhound pulling up prior to the return gate, failing to enter the catching pen and ultimately entering the infield. Stewards noted that Ethanol Unleaded had escaped the catching pen at Sandown Park on 04/02/2024 and was issued with a warning on that occasion. Acting in accordance with GAR 129, and being mindful of the safety of Ethanol Unleaded, other greyhounds in the race, staff, and participants, Stewards were not satisfied with the performance. Ethanol Unleaded was placed on a Satisfactory Trial under GAR 129, and pursuant to GAR 132, with the condition that the greyhound must run past the return gate and remain in the catching pen in order to clear the Satisfactory Trial, before any further nominations are accepted.

A post-race sample was taken from Crackerjack Boom - the winner of the event. 

Pursuant to GAR 75(6), Starter Mrs. Gill Johnson did not act in any official capacity that may have, in any way, affected the outcome of this event. 

Bo Rhapsody, Spot Fox and Desired Path were slow to begin.

Stewards spoke to Trainer Ms. Dawn Johnston regarding the racing manners of Bo Rhapsody turning into the back straight. After hearing submissions from Ms. Johnston, viewing the available race footage, and having their own observations, Stewards took no further action.

Spot Fox raced wide in the home straight. 

Ike Bale was quick to begin. Edsel Bale was slow to begin. Here Comes Milli began awkwardly and lost ground. 

A pre-race sample was unable to be obtained from Calimo. A post-race blood sample was subsequently taken.  

Mepunga Mustang and Garry Stun On were quick to begin. Whodat Shanlyn was slow to begin.

Whodat Shanlyn (turned head outwards on the home turn) underwent a post-race veterinary examination, was re-examined at 8.50pm, and was found to have a left sartorius muscle injury. A 5 day stand down period was imposed. Stewards spoke to Mrs. Lisa Delbridge regarding Whodat Shanlyn's racing manners on the home turn. Acting under the provisions of GAR 125, Whodat Shanlyn was charged with failing to pursue the lure with due commitment (by reason of injury). Mrs. Delbridge pleaded guilty to the charge. Whodat Shanlyn was found guilty and must perform a Satisfactory Trial in accordance with GAR 125, and pursuant to GAR 132, before any future nomination will be accepted.

A post-race sample was taken from Fernando Duke - the winner of the event. 

Racing was indefinitely delayed at 8:26pm due to persistent rainfall in the area and the consequent deterioration of track conditions. Due to weather conditions, track maintenance staff could not rectify the issue. The Stewards abandoned the meeting at 9:13pm, pursuant to GAR 111(4). All bets on greyhounds in the abandoned races are to be refunded. The weights recorded for the greyhounds in the abandoned races are void and do not count for the purposes of the weight rule at the greyhounds’ next start. Prizemoney will be split evenly between the eligible greyhounds as at the time of abandonment.
