Steward's Report
Beks was slow to begin. Shot To Bits and Major Missile collided soon after the start severely checking Major Missile. Nureyev and Blinker's On collided on the first turn checking Nureyev. Newfire Riley checked off Shot To Bits on the first turn. Shot To Bits and Blinker's On collided approaching the second turn. Shot To Bits checked off Blinker's On on the second turn and collided with Nureyev as a result. Major Missile faltered on the second turn and pulled up as a result. Newfire Riley and Beks collided on the third turn. Darbain Dasher and Love Affair collided on the fifth turn checking Darbain Dasher. Newfire Riley and Beks collided on the fifth turn and again on the home turn.
Shot To Bits was vetted following the event. It was reported that there was no apparent injury found. Subsequent to the event, Stewards spoke to the trainer of Shot To Bits, Mr. P. Ryder regarding the greyhound's apparent disappointing performance in this event. Mr. Ryder stated that he believed that the interference the greyhound received early in the race impacted heavily on the greyhound's chances. Mr. Ryder also observed that this was the first time the greyhound had raced over the distance at Sandown. Despite these factors, Mr. Ryder added that he had been very confident of the greyhound's chances prior to the race and had expected a forward showing. Stewards noted Mr. Ryder's comments and also directed that a sample be taken from the greyhound.
Major Missile was vetted following the event. It was reported that the greyhound sustained an injury to it's right back muscle. A 30 day stand down period was imposed.
