Steward's Report
In accordance with the GRV Hot Weather Policy, this meeting was deemed 'Heat Affected'. At the commencement of kennelling, the outside temperature was 25.0 degrees and the kennel temperature was 18.1 degrees. The Stewards continually monitored the temperature at the venue as per the GRV Hot Weather Policy.
Pursuant to the GRV Hot Weather Policy, the Stewards dispensed with two requirements prior to Race 1 meaning greyhounds were no longer required to remain on course for the specified time and that the parading of greyhounds was to occur, as the outside temperature had decreased to a reasonable level.
Valencia Bella was quick to begin. Jessica Gem went up with the lids at box rise and was slow to begin.
Victory Ted contacted the running rail approaching the home turn and was galloped on by Barry's Gaze, underwent a post–race veterinary examination and was found to havea left back muscle injury. A 14 day stand down period was imposed.
Aston Filippa, underwent a post–race veterinary examination and was found to have an abrasion. A 3 day stand down period was imposed. Stewards spoke to Mr. Dale Chapman regarding Aston Filippa’s racing manners entering the home straight. Acting under the provisions of GAR 123 Aston Filippa was charged with marring. Mr. Chapman pled not guilty to the charge, Aston Filippa was found guilty and suspended for 28 days at Traralgon and must perform a Satisfactory Trial in accordance with GAR 127, and pursuant to GAR 132, before any future nomination will be accepted.
Supplementary Report 23/2/23: Trainer Jason Sharp appealed to the Victorian Racing Tribunal against the Stewards decision to charge Aston Filippa for Marring. The VRT upheld Mr Sharp's appeal, setting aside the decision and penalty imposed by the Stewards. Aston Filippa's record has been quashed and is now free to nominate and race again.
Valencia Bella underwent a post–race veterinary examination – no apparent injury was reported. Stewards spoke to Mr. Donald Hay regarding Valencia Bella’s racing manners in the home straight. Acting under the provisions of GAR 124 Valencia Bella was charged with failing to pursue the lure with due commitment. Mr. Hay pled guilty to the charge and declined the option to have the greyhound re-vetted, Valencia Bella was found guilty and suspended for 28 days at Traralgon and must perform a Satisfactory Trial in accordance with GAR 127, and pursuant to GAR 132, before any future nomination will be accepted.
