Madam Nova was quick to begin. Jolly Johnny was slow to begin.
Jolly Johnny turned his head outwards approaching the winning post and marred Whizbang Godon. Jolly Johnny underwent a post–race veterinary examination – no apparent injury was reported. Stewards spoke to trainer Mr Marcus Lloyd regarding Jolly Johnny’s racing manners approaching the winning post. Acting under the provisions of GAR 123 Jolly Johnny was charged with marring. Mr Lloyd pled guilty to the charge, Jolly Johnny was found guilty and suspended for 28 days at Ballarat and must perform a Satisfactory Trial in accordance with GAR 127, and pursuant to GAR 132, before any future nomination will be accepted.
