Darley Sunday was quick to begin and crossed to the rail soon after the start checking Hit Pay Dirt and Pason Sander. Repeat crossed to the rail approaching the first turn checking Smash It, Zed's Birthday and Georgia's Osti. Baffle Plate and Darley Sunday collided on the first turn checking Baffle Plate. Zed's Birthday contacted the running rail on the first turn. Baffle Plate and Pason Sander collided approaching the home turn checking Baffle Plate. Zed's Birthday and Smash It collided approaching the home turn. Baffle Plate and Georgia's Osti collided approaching the home turn checking Georgia's Osti. Darley Sunday, Repeat, Pason Sander and Hit Pay Dirt raced wide in the home straight. Pason Sander and Repeat collided in the home straight checking Pason Sander, Repeat and Darley Sunday. Repeat checked off Darley Sunday approaching the winning post.
Stewards spoke to trainer Mr T Monaghan in regards to Darley Sunday, which performed above market expectations. Mr Monaghan stated that the greyhound benefited from the slower than average time. Mr Monaghan further stated that the greyhound had suffered interference at its previous starts which had resulted in the greyhound being inclined to race wider on the track. Stewards noted the comments of Mr Monaghan and directed that a sample be taken from Darley Sunday.
