Steward's Report
A pre-race sample was taken from Confer.
Winkcup Bale crossed to the outside soon after the start and collided with Wild One Mikado. Confer galloped on Winkcup Bale on the first turn checking Confer. Dry Lightning and Confer collided approaching the home turn checking both greyhounds. Winkcup Bale, Mr. Blue Sky, Dry Lightning and Confer collided on the home turn checking all four greyhounds. Dry Lightning turned its head inwards and visibly eased in the home straight.
Dry Lightning underwent a post race veterinary examination and was found to have an injured right chest muscle. A 5 day stand down period was imposed. Stewards spoke to trainer, Mr. Aaron Debattista regarding the greyhound’s racing manners in the home straight. Acting under the provisions of GAR 69B (1), Dry Lightning was charged with failing to pursue the lure with due commitment (by reason of injury). Mr. Debattista pleaded guilty to the charge, Dry Lightning was found guilty and and must perform a satisfactory trial in accordance with GAR 69B (1) and pursuant to GAR 72, before any future nomination will be accepted.
My Believer underwent a post race veterinary examination and was found to have an injured left shin, right triangle muscle and both quadriceps. A 10 day stand down period was imposed.
Stewards spoke to Mr. Sean Van Taarling regarding the racing manners of My Believer in the home straight. After hearing evidence from Mr. Van Taarling, viewing all the available race footage and acting on their observations, a warning was issued regarding the greyhound’s racing manners in the home straight.
Stewards conferred with the judge regarding the margin and finishing times for 4th and 5th place between Dry Lightning and Confer. A clear margin of a nose was visible in the photo finish image with the actual finish time for Dry Lightning being 26.2056 compared to 26.2060 for Confer. However, as Fasttrack is limited to three decimal places, both times were automatically rounded to 26.206 and as such no margin is displayed in Fasttrack.
