Steward's Report
Keep It Black was slow to begin.
Mepunga Warrior and Weblec Rebel collided soon after the start. Mepunga Warrior, Weblec Rebel and Flying Lantern collided on the first turn; checking Flying Lantern; severely checking Mepunga Warrior and Keep It Black, both fell as a result. Major Sacrifice, Big Wings and Taiepa collided on the first turn; checking Big Wings and Taiepa. Big Wings turned its head outwards and marred Flying Lantern approaching the home turn, checking Flying Lantern. Big Wings checked off Weblec Rebel entering the home straight.
Mepunga Warrior underwent a post-race veterinary examination - no apparent injury was reported.
Keep It Black underwent a post-race veterinary examination and was found to have a left hindleg hip injury. A seven day stand down period was imposed.
Big Wings uunderwent a post-race veterinary examination - no apparent injury was reported. Stewards spoke to Trainer Mr B Pursell regarding the greyhound’s racing manners approaching the home turn. Acting under the provisions of GAR 69(1) Big Wings was charged with marring. Mr Pursell pleaded guilty to the charge, Big Wings was found guilty and suspended for 28 days at Sandown and must perform a Satisfactory Trial in accordance with GAR 69(2) and GAR 72, before any future nomination will be accepted.
A post-race sample was taken from Major Sacrifice - the winner of the event.
