Supplementary Report Geelong Race 7 25/9/2018

On the 26th of September 2018, Greyhound Racing Victoria Stewards and Veterinary Staff conducted a kennel inspection at the property of trainer Ms J Fothergill. The inspection was in relation to the scratching of  greyhounds trained by Fothergill engaged in race 7 at Geelong yesterday. The greyhounds Valdar Bale, Blackhaven and Jumbo Bale were all examined and found have injuries or received recent veterinary treatment consistent with the information Ms Fothergill supplied to Stewards regarding the scratching of all 3 greyhounds. 

Upon examination 

Blackhaven was found to be suffering from a right back muscle soreness.

Valdar Bale and Jumbo Bale had both received  veterianry treatment since nominations  closed and were found to be unfit to race. 

Sweet Gabriella was a late scratching at 11:39 am, following a phone call from trainer, Mr Trevor Whitford, regarding his vehicle breakdown on route to the track.  While no fine or stand-down period was imposed, Stewards will require evidence of the vehicle breakdown to be submitted before any future nomination will be accepted. 

Oshkosh Petra, Typhoon Nelly and Ursula Allen were quick to begin.  Up North Dougie and Itinerary were slow to begin and collided soon after the start.  Lektra Theory, Lucy's Quest and Up North Dougie collided on the first turn.  Up North Dougie and Itinerary collided entering the back straight.

An Out of Competition Sample was taken from Chochlik, engaged in this event, on 25 September 2018 pursuant to GAR 79A.

A pre-race sample was taken from Shorty George upon arrival at the course, prior to kennelling.

Chochlik was quick to begin.  Mini Fernando was slow to begin.  Goldenpaw Lad and Lucy's Otis collided on the first turn.  Lucy's Otis and Mini Fernando collided on the first turn.  Goldenpaw Lad and Lucy's Otis collided approaching the second turn.  Lucy's Otis and Mini Fernando collided entering the back straight and again on the third turn.

A sample was taken from Chochlik - the winner of the event.

Mt View Gift was a late scratching at 11:40 am, following a phone call from representative, Mr Trevor Whitford, regarding his vehicle breakdown on route to the track.  While no fine or stand-down period was imposed, Stewards will require evidence of the vehicle breakdown to be submitted before any future nomination will be accepted. 

A pre-race sample was taken from Miyagi Magic upon arrival at the course, prior to kennelling.

Unitue Edition and Fawn Regrets were slow to begin.  Perfect Empire and Owlette collided on the first turn.  Owlette, Fawn Regrets collided on the first turn.  Perfect Empire and Owlette collided on the third turn and again entering the home straight.  Owlette marred  Perfect Empire on the home turn and in the home straight.

Oweltte was vetted following the event.  It was reported that the greyhound sustained a right foreleg chest injury, a seven day stand down period was imposed.

Stewards spoke to Mr Phillip Pollutro, the handler of the greyhound Owlette, regarding the greyhounds racing manners in the home straight.  Acting under GAR 69(1) Stewards charged Owlette with marring.  Mr Pollutro pleaded not guilty to the charge, Owlette was found guilty and suspended the greyhound for three months (all tracks) and it was directed that the greyhound perform a Satisfactory Trial (all tracks), pursuant to GAR 69(2)(b), before any future nomination will be accepted.

Miss Pocket Aces and My Girl Sissy collided soon after the start, checking My Girl Sissy.  Undenied Access and Blue Fabianna collided approaching the first turn, checking Blue Fabianna.  Daisy Me Rollin', Unique Quality, Blue Fabianna and My Girl Sissy collided on the first turn, checking Blue Fabianna and My Girl Sissy.  Zoro Bale and Daisy Me Rollin' collided on the second turn, checking Daisy Me Rollin'.  Unique Quality checked off Undenied Access approaching the third turn.

Pepper Rock, Valley Reaper and Yuko were quick to begin.  Valley Reaper and Oh So Sleek collided on the first turn.  Pepper Rock and Fast Izzi collided entering the home straight.  My Victoria raced wide in the home straight.

Betty La Fae was quick to begin.  Vrontios and Midnight Mystery were slow to begin.  Happy Tails checked off Betty La Fae on the first turn, checking Go Ekay.  Vrontios and Pretty Sensation collided on the first turn.  Midnight Mystery raced wide in the front straight.  Vrontios galloped on Happy Tails in the back straight.  Betty La Fae and Pretty Sensation collided approaching the fourth turn, checking Pretty Sensation.  Go Ekay and Betty La Fae collided on the home turn, checking both greyhounds; causing Midnight Mystery to race wide.  Happy Tails checked off Vrontios entering the home straight, checking Pretty Sensation.  Midnight Mystery raced wide in the home straight.

Stewards spoke to Mr Daryl Brennan, the trainer of Erica Mckenna, regarding the length of time the greyhound has had between races.  Erica Mckenna last raced on 6 June 2018.  Mr Brennan stated the greyhound was resuming racing following a seasonal spell.

A pre-race sample was taken from Ice Cool Kaedyn.

Winston Cruise and Lucille Dior were quick to begin.  Varuchi Pass and Splinter were slow to begin.  Lucille Dior and Ice Cool Kaedyn collided approaching the first turn.  Winston Cruise and Base Camp collided on the first turn.  Winston Cruise, Lucille Dior and Ice Cool Kaedyn collided on the third turn.  Erica McKenna and Lucille Dior collided approaching the home turn.  Lucille Dior and Varuchi Pass collided on the home turn.

A pre-race sample was taken from Shima Mart.

Clovally Granite was quick to begin.  Kulu Lightning was slow to begin.  Shima Mart and Buckle Up Rose collided approaching the first turn.  Clovally Granite and Dyna Jerry collided on the first turn.  Dyna Jerry and Kulu Lightning collided entering the back straight, checking Kulu Lightning.  Another Bling and Dyna Jerry collided on the home turn.

A sample was taken from Buckle Up Rose - the winner of the event.

Vibe was quick to begin.  Let It Fly was slow to begin.  I'm Circus and Oshkosh Ruth collided soon after the start.  Hot Finish and Head Banger collided soon after the start.  Vibe and Head Banger collided on the first turn.  I'm Circus, Oshkosh Ruth, Hot Finish and Head Banger collided on the first turn, checking Oshkosh Ruth.  Stevie Jane, Head Banger and Vibe collided approaching the second turn, checking Vibe and Head Banger.  Head Banger brushed the rail entering the back straight.

Head Banger was vetted following the event.  It was reported that the greyhound sustained a laceration to the left hindleg and a left foreleg chest injury, a 14 day stand down period was imposed.

A pre-race sample was taken from Paraphernalia.

Renaldo was slow to begin.  Paraphernalia, Renaldo and Xera Bale collided soon after the start.  Blusain Bolt, Waikiki Creek and Good Luck Mick collided soon after the start, checking Paraphernalia which contacted and running rail as a result, and checking Waikiki Creek which fell as a result.  Renaldo and Manhattan Man collided in the home straight.

Waikiki Creek was vetted following the event.  It was reported that the greyhound sustained a left foreleg chest injury, a seven day stand down period was imposed.

A pre-race sample was taken from Phoenix Fernando.

Double Que and Detroit Wally collided soon after the start and approaching the first turn.  Phoenix Fernando and Handpass collided soon after the start and approaching the first turn.  Double Que and Detroit Wally collided approaching the second turn and again on the second turn, checking Double Que.

An Out of Competition Sample was taken from Blue Blaze, engaged in this event, on 25 September 2018 pursuant to GAR 79A.

A pre-race sample was taken from Aston Utah.

Zing Zang Zena and Blue Blaze were slow to begin.  Bont's Magic and Staying In Paris collided on the first turn, checking Staying In Paris.  Zing Zang Zena checked off Blue Blaze on the home turn.
