Steward's Report
Stewards spoke to Mr Stephen Crighton, the trainer of Spectator regarding the length of time the greyhound has had between races. Spectator last raced on 22 February 2018 and is returning from a change of kennels.
This event was delayed by approx. 2.20mins to hold for Gatton gallops.
Got Some Zip was quick to begin. Dr. Zammit was slow to begin.
Mel's Footsteps and Pilot Pete collided soon after the start. Shooter's Ajax and Spectator collided soon after the start checking Shooters Ajax which stumbled. Mel's Footsteps and Pilot Pete collided approaching the first turn. Pilot Pete, Hurricane Billie and Stealthy Flight collided on the first turn checking Pilot Pete and Stealthy Flight, Pilot Pete fell as a result. Shooter's Ajax raced wide on the first turn. Got Some Zip eased on the first turn. Hurricane Billie and Got Some Zip collided on the home turn. Mel's Footsteps, Hurricane Billie and Got Some Zip collided in the home straight.
Pilot Pete was vetted following the event. It was reported that the greyhound sustained a right scapula fracture injury, a 90 day stand down period was imposed.
Got Some Zip was vetted following the event. It was reported that there was no apparent injury. Trainer Mr Trevor Whitford declined a re-vet.
Stewards spoke to Mr Trevor Whitford, the trainer of the greyhound Got Some Zip regarding the greyhounds racing manners on the first turn. Acting under GAR 69(A)(1) stewards charged Got Some Zip with failing to pursue the lure with due commitment. Mr Whitford pleaded guilty to the charge, Got Some Zip was found guilty and suspended for 28 days at Warragul and it was directed that the greyhound perform a Satisfactory Trial (all tracks), pursuant to GAR 69(A)(2)(a) before any future nomination will be accepted.
A pre-race sample was unable to be obtained from Pilot Pete a post-race sample was subsequently going to be taken, with the greyhound falling during the event and with the injury received the post-race sample was aborted.
Stewards inspected the track after the fall of the greyhound in this event and deemed the track satisfactory.
