Keep Up was quick to begin. Bageera and Slipaway Whitey were slow to begin. Terry Towelling crossed to the rail soon after the start, checking Da Bont, Smashing Wild, Bageera and Dynamite Jackson. Terry Towelling, Dynamite Jackson, Bageera and Smashing Wild collided approaching the first turn, checking Dynamite Jackson and Smashing Wild. Bageera Wild, Da Bont and Freakish Flash collided on the first turn, checking Bageera and Dynamite Jackson. Freakish Flash checked off Da Bont approaching the home turn.
