Stewards spoke to Mr D.Brennan, the trainer of Levi Liv regarding the length of time the greyhound has had between races.  Levi Liv last raced on 7th September 2017. Mr Brennan stated that the greyhound was resuming racing after being seasonal.

Mr J.McIntyre, trainer of Exford Oak declared a new weight of 31.3kg for the greyhound in accordance with GAR 39(2).  Exford Oak last raced at 29.9kg.

An Out of Competition Sample was taken from Magic Vogue engaged in this event on 2nd January 2018 pursuant to GAR 79A.

Golden Romance was quick to begin.  Marlucky Day and Apropos were slow to begin.  Golden Romance crossed to the rail approaching the first turn, checking Pippa's Pride.  Levi Liv checked off Exford Oak on the first turn.  Exford Oak checked off Apropos approaching the home turn.  Marlucky Day and Exford Oak raced wide on the home turn.  Magic Vogue and Marlucky Day raced wide in the home straight.

A sample was taken from Golden Romance - the winner of the event.

Stewards spoke to Mr G.Mannion, the trainer of Rockin' Joe regarding the length of time the greyhound has had between races.  Rockin' Joe last raced on 13th September 2017. Mr Mannion stated that the greyhound was resuming racing following a change of kennel. Mr Mannion declared a new weight of 32.1kg for the greyhound in accordance with GAR 39(2). Rockin' Joe last raced at 33.3kg.

Sue's Angel was quick to begin.  Rocketing Ruby was slow to begin.  Corsican, Major Style and Atomic Kitten collided soon after the start, checking Atomic Kitten.  Sue's Angel checked off Senor Ollie approaching the first turn.  Major Style galloped on the heels of Sue's Angel on the first turn, checking both greyhounds.  Sue's Angel raced wide on the home turn and in the home straight.  Blue Regis and Senor Ollie collided on the home turn and again several times in the home straight.  Atomic Kitten and Rockin' Joe raced wide in the home straight.

Sue's Angel was vetted following the event.  It was reported that the greyhound sustained an injured left monkey muscle, right quadriceps and right pencil muscle, a 10 day stand down period was imposed.

Senor Ollie was vetted following the event.  It was reported that the greyhound sustained an injured right monkey muscle, a 10 day stand down period was imposed.

Stewards issued a warning to J Willoughby, the handler of Senor Ollie regarding the greyhound’s racing manners in the home straight.

A pre race sample was taken from Pyrenees Petraca.

Harry's Hammer was slow to begin.  Bonnie Blue and Riverdale Danger collided soon after the start.  Bonnie Blue galloped on the heels of Hayley Hane approaching the first turn.  Bonnie Blue and Riverdale Danger collided on the first turn, checking Riverdale Danger and Harry's Hammer.  Hayley Jane and Bonnie Blue raced wide entering the home straight and collided several times in the home straight resulting in Hayley Jane becoming  unbalanced.  Bonnie Blue marred the running of Hayley Jane approaching the winning post.

Hayley Jane was vetted following the event.  It was reported that the greyhound sustained an injured right pencil muscle and left triangle muscle, a 7 day stand down period was imposed.

Bonnie Blue was vetted following the event.  It was reported that the greyhound sustained an injured right monkey muscle, a 14 day stand down period was imposed.

Stewards spoke to J Gaut, the handler of the greyhound Bonnie Blue regarding the greyhounds racing manners approaching the winning post.  Acting under GAR 69(1) stewards charged Bonnie Blue with marring. J Gaut pleaded not guilty to the charge, Bonnie Blue was found guilty and suspended for 28 days at Ballarat and it was directed that the greyhound perform a Satisfactory Trial (all tracks), pursuant to GAR 69(2)(a) before any future nomination will be accepted.

Stewards spoke to Mr P.Mccoll, the trainer of Boston Light regarding the length of time the greyhound has had between races. Boston Light last raced on 22nd July 2017. Mr Mccoll stated that the greyhound was resuming racing following an extended spell.

An Out of Competition Sample was taken from Monoak engaged in this event on 2nd January 2018 pursuant to GAR 79A.

Monoak was a late scratching at 5.54pm on Veterinary advice (GAR 37)(fleas). No stand down period was imposed. Stewards will require a veterinary certificate of clearance, before any future nomination will be accepted. 

A pre race sample was taken from Why Not Dean.

Shadow Walker was quick to begin.  Maximum Gift was slow to begin.  Why Not Dean and Elgrande Rebel collided approaching the first turn.  Elgrande Rebel and Maximum Gift collided approaching the first turn.  Why Not Dean and Shadow Walker collided on the home turn and again entering the home straight.  Why Not Dean checked off Shadow Walker in the home straight.

An Out of Competition Sample was taken from Muzzle Welsh engaged in this event on 2nd January 2018 pursuant to GAR 79A. Muzzle Welsh failed to gain a start in this event.

Destini Lima was quick to begin.  Over The Horizon was slow to begin.  Treasure Keeper, Raven Joe, Why Not Kylie, Flash Apollo, Fawntastic Kate and Cosmic Don collided soon after the start, checking Raven Joe and Flash Apollo.  Flash Apollo checked off Over The Horizon entering the back straight.  Destini Lima, Treasure Keeper, Why Not Kylie, Fawntastic Kate and Cosmic Don collided in the back straight, checking Treasure Keeper, Fawntastic Kate, Cosmic Don and Over The Horizon.  Raven Joe raced wide in the back straight.  Over The Horizon brushed the running rail approaching the second turn.  Destini Lima and Flash Apollo collided approaching the second turn, checking Destini Lima.  Destini Limi checked off Fawntastic Kate approaching the home turn.  Raven Joe and Fawntastic Kate raced wide approaching the winning post.

Treasure Keeper tired over the concluding stages of the race and was vetted.  It was reported that there was no apparent injury found.

Cosmic Don was vetted following the event and after being re-vetted following race 7, it was reported that the greyhound sustained an injured right back muscle and spike wounds to both hind legs, a 10 day stand down period was imposed.

Lee I Am and Runaway Jack were slow to begin.  Gold Attraction and Wishes Fulfilled collided soon after the start.  Luke Roman and Clear Sense collided approaching the first turn. Blazing Lane stumbled at the first turn.  Danger Bale and Runaway Jack collided on the first turn, checking Runaway Jack.  Lee I Am and Wishes Fulfilled collided approaching the home turn.  Runaway Jack checked off Danger Bale in the home straight.

Blazing Lane was vetted following the event.  It was reported that the greyhound sustained an injured right pencil muscle, a 7 day stand down period was imposed.

Tomdor was slow to begin.  Ark Lightning, Gambler's Loot and Crackerjack Jim collided approaching the first turn, checking Gambler's Loot.  Crackerjack Jim, Ark Lightning and Whalephant collided on the first turn, checking Ark Lightning and Whalephant.  Gamler's Loot brushed the running rail on the first turn.  Tomdor raced wide approaching the home turn.  Whalephant failed to pursue the lure with due commitment in the home straight and collided with Ark Lightning.

Stewards spoke to Mr S Divers, the trainer of the greyhound Whalephant regarding the greyhounds racing manners in the home straight.  Whalephant was vetted following the event.  It was reported that the greyhound sustained an injured right shoulder and spike wounds, a 7 day stand down period was imposed.  Acting under GAR 69(B)(1), the stewards charged Whalephant with failing to pursue the lure with due commitment (by reason of injury).Mr Divers pleaded guilty to the charge, Whalephant was found guilty and stewards directed that the greyhound perform a Satisfactory Trial (all tracks) pursuant to GAR 69(B)(1)(a), before any future nomination will be accepted.

The Club Veterinary Surgeon examined Octo Burn and no illness was detected. The greyhound was a late scratching at 6.06pm due to weight variation (GAR 39). A 10 day stand down period was imposed. Trainer Mr Keith Kelly was fined the sum of $100.

Marodo was slow to begin.  Rooey and Mexican Terror collided soon after the start, checking Mexican Terror.  Don's Magic and Sunningdale collided soon after the start.  Jockey Bale and Sunningdale collided approaching the first turn.  Sunningdale and Marodo collided approaching the first turn.  Rooey, Jockey Bale and Marodo collided approaching the winning post.
