Big Tilly was very slow to begin (3L).

Stewards spoke to Mr Lachlan Scott, the trainer of Scott Muscle, regarding the length of time the greyhound has had between races. Scott Muscle last raced on 1 October 2017. Mr Scott stated that the greyhound had been spelling following a left hip injury. Mr Scott also declared a new weight of 38.2kg for the greyhound in accordance with GAR 39(2). Scott Muscle last raced at 39.3kg.

Scott Muscle and Bless 'Em All collided soon after the start. Star's Big Boy crossed to the inside soon after the start and collided with Tally Ho Billy and Daintree Dynamo; Star's Big Boy fell as a result and tailed the field for the remainder of the event.
