Steward's Report

A pre-race sample was taken from Runnin' On Fire.

Inequity, Hit The Highway, Sly Shiraz and Chrissy Pee were quick to begin.  Dundee Tango and Jeebus Bird were slow to begin.  Jeebus Bird checked off Runnin' On Fire on the second turn.  Runnin' On Fire checked off Allen Lottery on the second turn and collided with Jeebus BIrd and Sly Shiraz.  Chrissy Pee faded approaching the fifth turn.  Jeebus Bird and Sly Shiraz collided on the fifth turn.  Dundee Tango and Allen Lottery collided approaching the home turn.  Hit The Highway checked off Inequity on the home turn.  Chrissy Pee tired over the concluding stages of the event.

Stewards questioned Mr J Galea, trainer of Chrissy Pee, which weakened noticeably in the back straight when stepping up in distance from 450 metres to 725 metres. Mr Galea explained that although Chrissy Pee had  shown consistent form over shorter distances, the dog had recently trialled satisfactorily over 600 metres. For this reason he entered Chrissy Pee in tonight's distance event with the expectation that it would run out the 725 metres. Mr Galea added that following tonight's performance he would restrict Chrissy Pee to the more suitable races over a shorter distance. A veterinary examination failed to reveal any abnormality.
