A pre race sample was taken from Merl's Blaze.
Winey Bago and Warming Galo's collided soon after the start checking Winey Bago, Thera Cee and Money Dud. Warming Galo's, Winey Bago and Thera Cee collided on the first turn checking Thera Cee. Little Big Chief crossed to the rails on the first turn checking Warming Galo's, Winey Bago and Thera Cee. Big Boy Rocket failed to pursue the lure with due commitment in the home straight. Jai Jai Away and Big Boy Rocket collided approaching the winning post checking Jai Jai Away and Little Big Chief.
Big Boy Rocket was vetted following the event. It was reported that the greyhound sustained a lumbo-sacral injury, a 10 day stand down period was imposed.
Stewards spoke to Mr D. Gehan, the trainer of the greyhound Big Boy Rocket regarding the greyhounds racing manners in the home straight. Acting under GAR 69(A)(1) stewards charged Big Boy Rocket with failing to pursue the lure with due commitment. Mr Gehan pleaded guilty to the charge, Big Boy Rocket was found guilty and suspended for 28 days at Ballarat and it was directed that the greyhound perform a Satisfactory Trial (all tracks), pursuant to GAR 69(A)(2)(a) before any future nomination will be accepted.
