A pre-race sample was taken from Aston Sprite.
Rusty Mia and Aston Sprite were quick to begin. Uncool Albert, Miss Utamurra and Fairy Tiger were slow to begin. Rusty Mia, Willowvale Pearl and Aston Sprite collided on the first turn severley checking Willowvale Pearl. Uncool Albert raced wide on the first turn checking Stately Kay causing Miss Utamurra and Stately Kay to race wide. Rusty Mia and Aston Sprite collided approaching the home turn checking Aston Sprite. Stately Kay and Fairy Tiger collided on the home turn.

Stewards spoke to Mr. P. Borradale the trainer of Wallet Wizard regarding the length of time since the greyhound last raced. Wallet Wizard last raced on 25/06/16. Mr. Borradale stated that the greyhound was returning to racing following a spell. Pursuant to GAR 77A Wallet Wizard trialled over 315 metres from box 1, weight 32.6kg, the greyhound was placed third in a field of 4. The time of the trial was 18.44 secs, the greyhound was beaten by a margin of 10..5 lengths. Wallet Wizard was cleared.
