Blazing Lane was quick to begin. Cindy's Zafonic and Burning House collided approaching the first turn, checking Burning House. Cindy's Zafonic, Burning House, Flying Camo, Power Sensation and Supervisor collided on the first turn, checking Burning House, Supervisor and Tooralee, and severely checking Power Sensation. Power Sensation and Burning House collided approaching the home turn, checking both greyhounds.

Satisfactory Trial Results - Ultimate Return trialled over the 450m from box eight, weight 26.1kg, the greyhound was placed first in a field of four starters. The time of the trial was 26.06, the greyhound won by a margin of 3.75 lengths. Ultimate Return was cleared.
Satisfactory Trial Results (GAR 77A) - Stewards spoke to Mr Clint Arthur, the trainer of Magic Buddie regarding the length of time since the greyhound last raced. Magic Buddie last raced on 5th February 2016. Mr Arthur stated that the greyhound was returning to racing after a left shoulder injury. Pursuant to GAR 77A, Magic Buddie trialled over the 390m from box three, weight 30.8kg, the greyhound was placed third in a field of four starters. The time of the trial was 22.24, the greyhound was beaten by a margin of 10 lengths. Magic Buddie was cleared.
Satisfactory Weight Trial (Solo) - Claretown Boris trialled over the 390m from box one, weight 32.9kg. The time of the trial was 22.48, Claretown Boris was cleared.
