A pre race sample was taken from Midwinter.

Chain Of Fire and Night Hawk were slow to begin. Proven Kodiak and Road Driller collided soon after the start. Connemara Black and Maximum Mak collided approaching the first turn, checking Maximum Mak. Chain Of Fire and Night Hawk collided approaching the first turn. Night Hawk and Road Driller collided on the first turn, checking Night Hawk. Road Driller faltered approaching the home turn and pulled up.

Road Driller was vetted following the event. It was reported that the greyhound sustained a fractured right hock, and was humanely euthanased.
