Stewards spoke to Mr. T. Erenshaw, trainer of Flying Smooth when he exited the kennels to an unrestricted area after retrieving his greyhound prior to the event. Mr. Erenshaw stated that it was his first time attending the Ballarat track, consequently he was unfamiliar with the kennel arrangement and had inadvertently exited through the wrong door when attempting to empty his greyhound. Stewards noted his explanation and ordered a post-race sample to be taken from Flying Smooth.

Stewards spoke to Mr. P. Cusack, the trainer of Black Ember regarding the length of time the greyhound has had between races. Black Ember last raced on 5th of September, 2016. Mr. Cusack stated that Black Ember is returning to racing after being on season.

Stewards spoke to Mr. N. Vincent, the trainer of Mademoiselle Sox regarding the length of time the greyhound has had between races. Mademoiselle Sox last raced on 9th of August, 2016. Mr. Cusack stated that Mademoiselle Sox is returning to racing from being on season. 

Greysynd Chief was quick to begin.  Dyna Leroy was slow to begin.  Andelven, Southwood Max, Mademoiselle Sox and Shazzle's Boy collided soon after the start.  Greysynd Chief and Mahogany Saphire collided on the first turn.  Southwood Max, Mademoiselle Sox and Shazzle's Boy collided on the second turn, checking Southwood Max and Shazzle's Boy.  Andelven and Dyna Leroy collided on the home turn.

Mr. P. Riley , handler of Landmark declared a new weight of 38.4 kgs for the greyhound in accordance with GAR 39(2). Landmark last raced at 37.0 kgs.

Slipaway Robbie was a late scratching at 2.14 PM due to a laceration (GAR 23).  A 10 day stand down period was imposed. Stewards will require a veterinary certificate before any future nomination will be accepted. 

The Club Veterinary Surgeon examined Until Dawn and no illness was detected. The greyhound was a late scratching at 6.06 PM due to weight variation (GAR 39). A 10 day stand down period was imposed. Trainer Mr. G. Rounds was fined the sum of $100.

Dyna Juggler and Lektra Uncut were quick to begin.  Sunday Sess was slow to begin.  Philo Bale and Mister Campo collided soon after the start.  Lektra Uncut and Sunday Sess collided approaching the first turn.

Lektra Uncut was vetted following the event and after being re-vetted following race 10, it was reported that the greyhound sustained an injured left monkey muscle, a 10 day stand down period was imposed.
