Kestrel Coal, Vila Joya, Chili Dipper, Black Cardigan, Sansa and Frank's Flyer collided soon after the start checking Vila Joya and Frank's Flyer. Sundance Rock contacted the running rail on the first turn. Vila Joya and Chili Dipper collided approaching the first turn. Kestrel Coal and Chili Dipper collided approaching the first turn. Chili Dipper and Frank's Flyer collided several times approaching the home turn. Kestrel Coal and Chili Dipper collided in the home straight.

Sundance was vetted following the event. It was reported that there was no apparent injury.

Following the Ballarat meeting held on 7th August 2013 a post mortem examination was conducted on the greyhound Why Not Lindsay which collapsed and died in the catching pen following the running of Race 7. The likely diagnosis was cardiovascular failure. 

Following the Ballarat meeting held on 21st August 2013 a post mortem examination was conducted on the greyhound Nicky Bale which collapsed and died in the catching pen following the running of Race 4. The likely diagnosis was cardiovascular collapse secondary to haemorrhage.
