A pre-race sample was taken from Crackerjack Jake upon arrival at the course, prior to kennelling.
A pre-race sample was taken from Billy Ray Bunter upon arrival at the course, prior to kennelling.
Crackerjack Jake and Capricorn Storm collided soon after the start. Ebby Chance and Billy Ray Bunter collided approaching the first turn checking Billy Ray Bunter. Golden Ferrari and Red Rocket Sox collided approaching the first turn checking Golden Ferrari. Red Rocket Sox checked off Merl's Angel on the first turn. Capricorn Storm and Red Rocket Sox collided on the first turn. Capricorn Storm checked off Red Rocket Sox approaching the home turn. Red Rocket Sox and Merl's Angel collided on the home turn checking Merl's Angel. Capricorn Storm raced wide on the home turn. Billy Ray Bunter eased in the home straight and collided with Golden Ferrari.
Billy Ray Bunter was vetted following the event. It was reported that there was no apparent injury found. Mr Higgins declined the option of having the greyhound re-vetted.
Stewards spoke to Mr J. Higgins, the trainer of the greyhound Billy Ray Bunter regarding the greyhounds racing manners in the home straight. Acting under GAR 69(A)(1) stewards charged Billy Ray Bunter with failing to pursue the lure with due commitment. Mr Higgins pleaded guilty to the charge, Billy Ray Bunter was found guilty and was suspended for 28 days (all tracks) and it was directed that the greyhound perform a Satisfactory Trial (all tracks), pursuant to GAR 69(A)(2)(b), before any future nomination will be accepted.
