A pre-race sample was taken from Shayley's Comet.
Supasonic Sam and Crackerjack Surf collided soon after the start. Why Not George, Shayley's Comet and Minnesota collided soon after the start checking Minnesota. Call Me Waylan and Shayley's Comet collided approaching the first turn checking Call Me Waylan and Horey's Girl. Crackerjack Surf, Minnesota and Darley Millions collided approaching the first turn checking Minnesota. Shayley's Comet eased approaching the home turn checking Supasonic Sam, Horey's Girl, Why Not George, Crackerjack Surf and Darley Millions. Crackerjack Surf and Minnesota collided entering the home straight. Shayley's Comet and Darley Millions collided in the home straight.
Stewards spoke to Mr. P. Fleming, the trainer of the greyhound Shayley's Comet regarding the greyhound's racing manners approaching the home turn. Shayley's Comet was vetted following the event. It was reported that the greyhound sustained an injury to its right monkey muscle. A 10 day stand down period was imposed. Acting under GAR 69(B)(1), the stewards charged Shayley's Comet with failing to pursue the lure with due commitment (by reason of injury). Mr. Fleming did not wish to enter a plea on behalf of the greyhound. Shayley's Comet was found guilty and stewards directed that the greyhound must perform a Satisfactory Trial (all tracks), pursuant to GAR (B)(1)(a), before any future nomination will be accepted.
