Frank's Gun was slow to begin. Brabham and Diane's Lass collided soon after the start. Diane's Lass, Choir Master and Jane Eliza collided on the first turn, checking Choir Master. Frank's Gun, Bing Gordyn and Oscar Shiraz collided on the first turn. Layton Boss raced wide in the back straight. Brabham faltered and pulled up on the second turn. Jane Eliza and Bing Gordyn collided on the second tuen, checking both greyhounds. Frank's Gun and Diane's Lass collided in the home straight.
