Steward's Report
A sample was taken from Aston Cassidy upon arrival at the course.
Nicko Boom, Mepunga Bounce and Aston Cassidy collided soon after the start checking Nicko Boom and Mepunga Bounce. Our Girls Shout, Lightning Prince, Nicko Boom and Mepunga Bounce collided on the first turn checking Lightning Prince and Mepunga Bounce, severely checking Our Girls Shout and Nicko Boom. Battle Axle visibly eased approaching the home turn and turned its head to the outside towards Aston Cassidy causing both greyhounds to collide several times, severely checking both greyhounds. Our Girls Shout and Lightning Prince collided entering the home straight. Battle Axle and Nicko Boom collided entering the home straight.
Battle Axle underwent a post-race veterinary examination and was found to have no apparent injury. Mr William Donlon declined the option to have the greyhound re-vetted. Stewards spoke to Mr Donlon, the trainer of Battle Axle regarding the greyhound’s racing manners approaching the home turn. Acting under the provisions of GAR 69A(1) Battle Axle was charged with failing to pursue the lure with due commitment. Mr Donlon pleaded guilty to the charge, Battle Axle was found guilty and suspended for 28 days at Bendigo and must perform a Satisfactory Trial in accordance with GAR 69A (2) and pursuant to GAR 72, before any future nomination will be accepted.
