A pre-race sample was taken from Short Deuce.
Short Deuce was quick to begin. Maverick Sandy was slow to begin.
Bern's Ability and Papaya collided soon after the start, checking Papaya. Bern's Ability clipped the heels of Short Deuce approaching the home turn; checking Short Deuce, causing Papaya to fall; severely checking College Degree.
Papaya underwent a post–race veterinary examination and was found to have abrasions to the right hindleg toes. A three day stand down period was imposed.
