Ms Susan Trim, trainer of Our Sweetie, declared a new weight of 24.9kg for the greyhound in accordance with GAR 39(2). Our Sweetie last raced at 23.8kg.

Sweet Solera, Halloweenie, Belron Gaz and She's A Beaut were slow to begin.

Buckle Up Scotch crossed to the inside soon after the start, checking Do Looks Count and Halloweenie. Sweet Solera and Our Sweetie collided on the first turn, checking Sweet Solera, Our Sweetie and Do Looks Count.

Stewards spoke to Mr William McMahon, the trainer of Candy Rose, regarding the length of time the greyhound has had between races. Candy Rose last raced on 20 January 2017 and is returning after a seasonal spell.

Candy Rose and Tail Inspector collided soon after the start, checking Tail Inspector. He's A Freebie, Killara John, Sold Short and Madam Russo collided soon after the start, checking Killara John and as a result, checking Tail Inspector. Sold Short easted on the first turn and lost ground. Sold Short and Tail Inspector collided approaching the winning post.

Stewards spoke to Mr G James, the representative of the greyhound Sold Short, regarding the greyhound’s racing manners on the first turn. Sold Short was vetted, and or re-vetted following event five. It was reported that the greyhound sustained injuries to the right long head triceps (monkey) muscle, a seven-day stand down period was imposed. Acting under GAR 69(B)(1), the stewards charged Sold Short with failing to pursue the lure with due commitment (by reason of injury).  Mr James pleaded not guilty to the charge, Sold Short was found guilty and stewards directed that the greyhound perform a Satisfactory Trial (all tracks) pursuant to GAR 69(B)(1)(a), before any future nomination will be accepted.

Full Moon and Need A Zac were quick to begin.

Sargent, Le Freak and Total Diva were slow to begin.

Fred Dagg, Shadown Diamond and Sargent collided soon after the start, checking Shadow Diamond and Sargent. Shadow Diamond and Le Freak collided on the first turn, checking Le Freak.

Sargent faltered and lost ground on the first turn, and was vetted following the event. It was reported that the greyhound sustained injuries to the left tensor fascia (triangle) and pectineaus (groin) muscles. A 14-day stand down period was imposed.

Belron Bliss, Bowon Approach and Apila Cabbage collided soon after the start. Apila Cabbage checked off the heels of Belron Bliss on the first turn. Iona Whiteflash was a late scratching at 11:24am due to non arrival (GAR 31). After discussions with trainer Mr Jess Grima, Stewards fined Mr Grima the sum of $100 and no stand down penalty was imposed. 

Tarsier, Row Tay Tom, Belle Deity and In A Pickle were slow to begin.

First Refusal was a late scratching at 8:51am due to illness (GAR 23). A ten-day stand down period was imposed. Stewards will require a veterinary certificate before any future nomination will be accepted. 

Celtic Fire, Galaxy Star and MWolfbane McCabe were slow to begin.

The Club Veterinary Surgeon examined Fine Edge and no illness was detected. The greyhound was a late scratching at 11:01AM due to weight variation (1.4kg underweight) (GAR 39). A ten-day stand down period was imposed. Trainer Mr Garry Condon was fined the sum of $100.

Penny Lane Keats and Adala Son were quick to begin. Salegrey Wy Yung was slow to begin.

Stewards spoke to Ms Kathleen Fogarty, trainer/handler of Tiger Jams, and issued a warning regarding the greyhound's boxing manners.

MEETING COMMENTS

Satisfactory Trial Results (GAR 77A) - Stewards spoke to Mr Wayne Vassallo, the trainer of Proven Eddie regarding the length of time since the greyhound last raced. Proven Eddie last raced on 1 November 2016. Mr Vassallo stated that the greyhound had sustained an injury to the left hock. Pursuant to GAR 77A, Proven Eddie trialled over the 460m from box three, weight 32.4kg, the greyhound was placed third in a field of five. The time of the trial was 26.17, the greyhound was beaten by a margin of 1.25L. Proven Eddie was cleared.
