Fess Crockett, Hillbilly Boy and Urana Vee Eight was slow to begin. Secret Message, Monaro Joe, Mr. Bad Example and Just Like Didda collided approaching the first turn. Mr. Bad Example, Just Like Didda and Dr. Murtle collided on the first turn, checking Just Like Didda and Hillbilly Boy. Fess Crockett galloped on the heels of Monaro Joe on the first turn, checking both greyhounds. Fess Crockett and Mr. Bad Example collided on the second turn, checking Fess Crockett, Mr. Bad Example and Dr. Murtle. Mr. Bad Example checked off the heels of Fess Crockett in the back straight. Dr. Murtle checked off the heels of Just Like Didda in the back straight.
