Supplementary Report – Sale Race 5, 16 October 2016.

Stewards have concluded an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the nominations and subsequent scratchings of the greyhounds Where's Dex Star and Carve from Race 5, The Monacellars Mixed 4/5, from the Sale race meeting on Sunday 16 October 2016.

Evidence was taken on that day from Mr. Clint Capuano representing Ms. Chloe Dew, the registered trainer of Where’s Dex Star and Carve. On Monday 17 October 2016 evidence was taken from Ms. Dew and further evidence was taken from Mr. Capuano. 

A veterinary examination by GRV Veterinary Inspection Officer Dr. A James on Monday 17 October 2016 revealed Where’s Dex Star was suffering an injury to its right hock. A veterinary examination on Friday 21 October 2016 revealed Carve was suffering from an acute injury in the left triangle muscle. These injuries were consistent with the reasons the greyhounds were withdrawn from the Sale event.

In all the circumstances, no action was taken, however Ms. Dew was advised that future nominations and runners would be monitored to ensure compliance with the Greyhound Racing Victoria Grading Guidelines.

At this time the matter is closed unless any further evidence is received. The Stewards reserve the right to reopen the inquiry.

A pre-race sample was taken from Ouchamp upon arrival at the course, prior to kennelling.

Wosbogavich and Marvelette were slow to begin.  Ouchamp crossed to the rail soon after the start checking Manila Blue.  Dukestar and Pure Cascade collided approaching the first turn checking Pure Cascade.  Pure Cascade and Sisco Sizzle collided approaching the first turn.  Wosbogavich, Pure Cascade, Sisco Sizzle and Marvelette collided on the first turn checking Pure Cascade and Marvelette.

A sample was taken from Manila Blue, the fourth placegetter in this event.

A pre-race sample was taken from Why Not Trish upon arrival at the course, prior to kennelling.

Claude Van Keats was quick to begin.  Barani and Federal Agent collided soon after the start.  Joraddi and Doyen Ruler collided approaching the first turn. Quick Sensation checked off Why Not Trish approaching the first turn.  Joraddi, Claude Van Keats and Hosting collided on the first turn checking Joraddi and Hosting.  Federal Agent contacted the running rail on the first turn.  Claude Van Keats and Hosting collided approaching the second turn checking Hosting. Joraddi galloped on the heels of Claude Van Keats on the second turn checking Joraddi.  Joraddi, Barani and Doyen Ruler collided entering the back straight severely checking all three greyhounds.  Federal Agent checked off Doyen Ruler on the third turn.

A sample was taken from Quick Sensation, the winner of the event.

A pre-race sample was taken from Pocket Queen upon arrival at the course, prior to kennelling..

There's Steamy was quick to begin.  Mepunga Focus and Dewana Be Sharp collided soon after the start checking Dewana Be Sharp.  Daintree Jim and Delta Miss collided approaching the first turn checking Daintree Jim.  Saint Berty Bodd and Daintree Jim collided on the first turn checking both greyhounds. Saint Berty Bodd and Wildcard Babe collided on the second turn.  There's Steamy and Dewana Be Sharp collided on the third turn checking both greyhounds.  Dewana Be Sharp marred There's Steamy on the third turn.  Saint Berty Bodd marred Delta Miss in the back straight.  Delta Miss and There's Steamy collided on the home turn checking both greyhounds.  Dewana Be Sharp eased in the home straight.  Dewana Be Sharp, Saint Berty Bodd and Wildcard Babe collided approaching the winning post.

Saint Berty Bodd was vetted following the event.  It was reported that there was no apparent injury found.

Stewards spoke to Mr. P. Clark, the trainer of the greyhound Saint Berty Bodd regarding the greyhound's racing manners in the back straight.  Acting under GAR 69(1) stewards charged Saint Berty Bodd with marring.  Mr. Clark pleaded guilty to the charge.  Saint Berty Bodd was found guilty and suspended for 28 days at The Meadows and it was directed that the greyhound perform a Satisfactory Trial (all tracks), pursuant to GAR 69(2)(a) before any future nomination will be accepted.

Dewana Be Sharp was vetted following the event.  It was reported that the greyhound sustained an injury to its left monkey muscle.  A 3 day stand down period was imposed.

Stewards spoke to both Mr. R. Matthews, the trainer and Ms. J. Walker, the handler of the greyhound Dewana Be Sharp regarding the greyhound's racing manners on the third turn.  Acting under GAR 69(1) stewards charged Dewana Be Sharp with marring.  Mr. Matthews pleaded not guilty to the charge. Dewana Be Sharp was found guilty and suspended for 28 days at The Meadows and it was directed that the greyhound perform a Satisfactory Trial (all tracks), pursuant to GAR 69(2)(a) before any future nomination will be accepted.

Wildcard Babe was vetted following the event.  It was reported that the greyhound sustained soreness to its left triangle muscle.  A 7 day stand down period was imposed.

A sample was taken from Mepunga Focus, the winner of the event.

Connie Bale was quick to begin.  Run Right Back and Wolfpack collided soon after the start checking Wolfpack.  Zuletta and Apatchy Racer collided approaching the first turn.  Mcray and Run Right Back collided on the first turn.  Mcray and Zuletta collided in the back straight.  Mcray and Apatchy Racer collided on the home turn.  Zuletta and Tapping Tears collided on the home turn.  Run Right Back and Tapping Tears collided approaching the winning post.

Run Right Back was vetted following the event.  It was reported that the greyhound sustained abrasions to its lateral and medial hocks.  No stand down period was imposed.

A pre-race sample was taken from Southwood Max.

Tricky Mover, Southwood Max and One Cup Short collided on the first turn checking Tricky Mover, Southwood Max and Airbound.  Airbound and Kasreyn collided on the first turn checking both greyhounds.  Tricky Mover and Southwood Max collided on the first turn checking Tricky Mover.  Avatar Girl, Quick Step and Kasreyn collided on the first turn checking Avatar Girl, Kasreyn and Airbound.  One Cup Short checked off Kasreyn on the second turn.  Quick Step and Kasreyn collided several times from the back straight to the third turn checking Kasreyn.

Avatar Girl was vetted following the event.  It was reported that the greyhound sustained an injury to its righ triangle muscle.  A 7 day stand down period was imposed.

Enola Gay was quick to begin.  Texas Blaze was slow to begin.  Our Lilly and Elleni Banner collided soon after the start.  Sacred Witch checked off Bounty soon after the start.  Frac Geek, Elleni Banner, Our Lilly, Allen Eamon and Enola Gay collided approaching the first turn checking Our Lilly.  Frac Geek, Bounty and Elleni Banner collided on the first turn checking Elleni Banner.  Enola Gay and Elleni Banner collided on the first turn and again on the second turn checking Enola Gay.  Enola Gay and Bounty collided on the third turn checking Enola Gay and Our Lilly.  Our Lilly and Sacred Witch collided approaching the home turn. Our Lilly checked off Enola Gay on the home turn.

Stewards spoke to Mr. B. Pursell, representative for the greyhound Abscond which had not raced since 14th July 2016.  Mr. Pursell stated that the greyhound was returning to racing after recovering from a triangle injury.

Borris Delight and Scooby Who collided soon after the start checking Borris Delight.  Scooby Who, Royal Cosmic and Kryptonian collided approaching the first turn checking Royal Cosmic and Kryptonian.  Scooby Who, Borris Delight and Abscond collided on the first turn checking Abscond and severely checking Royal Cosmic and Borris Delight; Royal Cosmic raced wide as a result.

Kryptonian was vetted following the event.  It was reported that the greyhound sustained an injury to its right back muscle.  A 60 day stand down period was imposed.

Borris Delight was vetted following the event.  It was reported that there was no apparent injury found.

A pre-race sample was taken from Big Bold Boomer upon arrival at the course, prior to kennelling.

From The Dark, Brandeen Peaches and Shake were slow to begin.  Big Bold Boomer and Split Chic collided soon after the start checking Big Bold Boomer. From The Dark and Brandeen Peaches collided on the first turn checking Brandeen Peaches.  From The Dark and Shake collided on the first turn checking Shake.  Split Chic and Quina Bale collided entering the front straight.  Brandeen Peaches and Shake collided entering the front straight checking both greyhounds.  Split Chic and Quina Bale collided on the second turn checking both greyhounds.  Big Bold Boomer and Shake collided approaching the fourth turn checking Shake.

Stewards spoke to Mr. B. Pursell, representative for the greyhound Parker's Foibles which had not raced since 11th June 2016.  Mr. Pursell stated that the greyhound was returning to racing after being spelled following a split webbing.

A pre-race sample was taken from Allen Yobo.

Limburg Ava and Allen Yobo were slow to begin.  Galloping Fantom checked off Iron Anda approaching the first turn and collided with Limburg Ava.  City And Colour, Parker's Foibles, Abed Bale and Warrion Warrior collided approaching the first turn checking City And Colour, Abed Bale and Parker's Foibles. Limburg Ava, Galloping Fantom, Parker's Foibles and Abed Bale collided on the first turn severely checking Parker's Foibles and Abed Bale; Abed Bale stumbled as a result.  Allen Yobo checked off Galloping Fantom approaching the second turn.  Limburg Ava and Allen Yobo collided on the home turn and again in the home straight checking Limburg Ava.

Abed Bale was vetted following the event.  It was reported that there was no apparent injury found.

A sample was taken from Iron Anda, the winner of the event.

A pre-race sample was taken from Irish Asteria upon arrival at the course, prior to kennelling.

Lady Lurcher was quick to begin.  Limburg Frankie and Jet Setting were slow to begin.  Limburg Frankie and Shimmey collided soon after the start.  Olympic Lass, All Inn Together and Irish Asteria collided on the first turn.  Shimmey, Erelda Bale, Olympic Lass, All Inn Together and Irish Asteria collided on the first turn checking Erelda Bale, Olympic Lass and All Inn Together.  Limburg Frankie, Erelda Bale and Jet Setting collided entering the front straight checking Erelda Bale and Jet Setting.  Erelda Bale and Irish Asteria collided entering the back straight checking Irish Asteria.

Limburg Dan was a late scratching at 11:17am due to weight variation (GAR 39).  A 10 day stand down period was imposed.  Trainer, Mr. C. Reivers was fined the sum of $100.

Destini Doll and Lady Silver collided soon after the start checking Destini Doll.  Destini Doll and Lady Silver collided approaching the first turn.  Seabrook Gem and Satin Ice collided on the first turn.  Destini Doll and Satin Ice collided on the home turn.

Stewards spoke to Mr G. Harding and reminded him of his responsibilities in regards to the displaying of his licence (LRR 16.2).

Satisfactory Trial Results

Queen Rachel trialled over the 525 metre distance from box 1, weight 26.4kgs.  The greyhound was placed 2nd, in a field of 5.  The time of the trial was 30.68.  The greyhound was beaten by a margin of 6.25 lengths.  Queen Rachel was cleared.
