Steward's Report
Just Hang On was a late scratching at 6.30pm on the advice of the Club's Veterinary Surgeon due to injury. A 7 day stand down period was imposed.
A pre-race sample was unable to be obtained from Why Not Josie, a post race sample was subsequently taken.
Select Racer, Mister Stopper and Why Not Josie were slow to begin. Dr. Squidley and Cracking Joe collided approaching the first turn. Mister Stopper clipped the heels of Dr. Squidley approaching the first turn. Mister Stopper galloped on Dr. Squidley approaching the home turn. Dr. Squidley and Mister Stopper collided approaching the home turn. Dr. Squidley and Kimba Katani collided approaching the winning post.
Mister Stopper was vetted following an incident in the catching pen. It was reported that the greyhound sustained a cervical spinal fracture and was humanely euthanased.
Select Racer was vetted following an incident in the catching pen. It was reported that the greyhound sustained a laceration between the toes on the left front foot, a laceration to the left front leg, abrasions to the face and a nose bleed, a 10 day stand down period was imposed.
A sample was taken from Can't Be Caught - winner of the event.
Stewards spoke to catching pen attendants Mr. S. Sinclair, Mr. M. Craig and Club Manager Mr. H. Caruana after an incident as the greyhounds entered the catching pen involving a collision between Select Racer and Mister Stopper. After hearing evidence from Mr. Sinclair and Mr. Craig Stewards are of the opinion that the collision was an unfortunate accident.
