Gats Pacino was slow to begin. Tzar Knight and Bally James collided soon after the start, checking Tzar Night. Superior Bobby and Tzar Knight collided at the 250m mark. 

Stewards spoke to Mr. D. Condon regarding his difficulty in boxing the greyhound Superior Bobby.  Stewards directed that Superior Bobby be boxed first in future events.

Blackjack's Back and Johnny's Return collided soon after the start. Blackjack's Back and Platinum Force collided at the 300m mark, checking both greyhounds. Pappa Gallo, Hetalia Bale and Locked Out collided approaching the 300m mark. Hetalia Bale crossed to the rail approaching the 250m mark. One Step Beyond and Peragon Falcon collided at the 250m mark. Pappa Gallo and Locked Out collided at the 250m mark. Peragon Falcon checked off My Boy Ollie at the 200m mark, checking One Step Beyond and Peragon Falcon. Stewards spoke to Mr W. Methven, trainer of the greyhound King Spotalot which had not raced since 18 February 2016. Mr Methven stated that the greyhound was returning to racing after recovering from numerous injuries.
