Steward's Report
Tom's Bourbski and Credit Card Debt were quick to begin.
Tom's Bourbski (galloped on Soda Lightful turning off the back straight and fell) underwent a post-race veterinary examination and was found to have a lumbo-sacral injury. A 10 day stand down period was imposed.
Credit Card Debt (pulled up in the home straight and failed to finish) underwent a post-race veterinary examination - no injury reported (declined re-vet). Stewards spoke to representative Mr. M. Koffman regarding the greyhound’s racing manners in the home straight. Acting under the provisions of GAR 124, Credit Card Debt was charged with failing to pursue the lure with due commitment. Mr Koffman pleaded guilty to the charge. Credit Card Debt was suspended for 28 days at Geelong only and must perform a satisfactory trial in accordance with GAR 127, and pursuant to GAR 132, before any future nomination will be accepted.
Indy Vulcan (checked by the fallen greyhounds and fell) underwent a post-race veterinary examination and was found to have a left track leg injury. A 7 day stand down period was imposed.
Runway raced ungenerously turning off the back straight, Stewards spoke to representative Mr. M. Koffman regarding the greyhound’s racing manners. After hearing evidence from Mr Koffman, viewing all the available race footage and acting on their own observations, Stewards issued a warning to connections. In arriving at this decision, Stewards took into careful consideration that three greyhounds fell around Runway and the effect this incident would reasonably have had on the racing manners of the greyhound. Stewards were of the belief that the option to charge Runway under the failing to pursue rules was open to them, but declined to do so in the belief that this would be contrary to the intention and spirit of the rules.
Soda Lightful (galloped on by Tom's Bourbski turning off the back straight and fell) underwent a post-race veterinary examination and was found to have a left radius/ulna fracture. A 90 day stand down period was imposed.
