Steward's Report
Bourne Supremacy was quick to begin. Aston Beaufort and Smokin' Lopez were slow to begin.
A post–race sample was taken from Bourne Supremacy – the winner of the event
Aston Beaufort collided with Smokin' Lopez approaching the home turn, underwent a post–race veterinary examination and was found to have a right-fore triceps injury. A 7 day stand down period was imposed. Stewards spoke to Mr. J. Bosnich regarding Aston Beaufort’s racing manners approaching the home turn. Acting under the provisions of GAR 125, Aston Beaufort was charged with failing to pursue the lure with due commitment (by reason of injury). Mr. Bosnich pleaded guilty to the charge and Aston Beaufort must perform a Satisfactory Trial in accordance with GAR 125, and pursuant to GAR 132, before any future nomination will be accepted.
Smokin' Lopez checked off Bourne Supremacy exiting the back straight, collided with Aston Beaufort approaching the home turn and subsequently tailed off. Underwent a post–race veterinary examination and was re–examined following race 7. Smokin' Lopez was found to have a right triangle muscle injury. A 7 day stand down period was imposed. Stewards spoke to Mr. M. Clark regarding Smokin' Lopez’s performance and racing manners exiting the back straight. After hearing submissions from Mr. Clark, viewing the available race footage and acting on their observations, Stewards deemed the performance of Smokin' Lopez unsatisfactory. Smokin' Lopez must perform a Satisfactory Trial in accordance with GAR 129, and pursuant to GAR 132, before any future nomination will be accepted. Regarding Smokin' Lopez's overall performance in the event and in accordance with GAR 122, the Stewards further requested that Mr. Clark report as soon as practicable anything that may have affected the running of Smokin' Lopez in the event, which was not noted by Stewards during or immediately after the event.
