Steward's Report
Stewards today opened and adjourned an Inquiry with licensed Trainer Mr. P Brown, regarding the late withdrawal of Rejuvenate at 8.33am due to a groin injury. The Inquiry will resume on Monday, 6 February, 2023 at 10.00am. Stewards postponed the inquiry to Tuesday, 7 February 2023 at 11:00am.
Raceday samples were take from Bobby Axelrod, Die Hard, Mr. Beets, Battle Royal and Blue Tungsten at the trainers' kennel, earlier today.
Pre-race samples were taken from Ike Bale and Incineration.
Mr. Beets was quick to begin. Die Hard was slow to begin.
Samples were taken from placegetters, Mr. Beets (1st) and Blue Tungsten (2nd).
Supplementary Report 7/02/3023:Stewards on 7/02/2023 concluded an inquiry into the late withdrawal of Rejuvenate from the Western Districts Derby Final. At today's hearing, Stewards took further submissions from trainer Paul Brown. After considering all evidence, Stewards issued a charge under GAR 156(f)(ii) for negligence, that being the failure to withdraw Rejuvenate by the appointed scratching deadline pursuant to GAR 76(1) & (2). Mr Brown pleaded guilty to the charge. Stewards issued a fine of $250. In assessing penalty, Stewards took into consideration Mr Brown's excellent record, time in the industry, and his forthright evidence. Rejuvenate was issued a 10 day stand down period effective 3/02/2023. Stewards have subsequently recevied a veterinary certificate in accordance with GAR 76.
