Steward's Report
Diamond Icon was a late scratching at 17:07 due to weight variation (GAR 39). A 10 day stand down period was imposed. Trainer Ms. S. Mifsud was fined the sum of $100.
A pre-race sample was unable to be obtained from Spolly Smasher due to the trainer's failure to appear at the kennels by the appointed time to retrieve the greyhound for racing, a post race sample was subsequently taken.
Spolly Smasher, Akina Spice and Got No Issues were slow to begin. Aston Ronaldo and What A Chancer collided approaching the first turn checking What A Chancer. Aston Ronaldo and Got No Issues crossed in on the first turn checking Akina Spice, Spolly Smasher and What A Chancer. Aston Ronaldo checked off Got No Issues on the first turn. Moroka Assassin and Keep Still collided on the first turn and again approaching the home turn checking Keep Still. Spolly Smasher checked off Akina Spice approaching the home turn and collided on the home turn. Akina Spice and Got No Issues collided on the home turn. What A Chancer and Keep Still collided on the home turn checking Keep Still. What A Chancer checked off Got No Issues approaching the winning post.
Stewards spoke to Mr. Steven Spoljaric, the trainer of Spolly Smasher regarding his failure to appear at the kennels by the appointed time to retrieve the greyhound for racing. Mr Spoljaric stated that he was late to arrive to the kennels due to arranging handlers for his engagements in consecutive races. Stewards found Mr. Spoljaric in breach of GAR 46(2), in that he failed to appear at the kennels by the appointed time. Mr Spoljaric pleaded guilty to the charge. Stewards fined Mr Spoljaric the sum of $50. In determining penalty stewards took into consideration that Mr Spoljaric's tardiness had affected a pre race sample being obtained from his greyhound and had impacted on the remaining trainers in retrieving their greyhounds to prepare for this event.
A sample was taken from Moroka Assassin - the winner of the event.
