Supplementary Report: Ballarat 5 February 2018.

GRV Stewards inquired into the late scratching of Al’s In Trouble from Race 3 at Ballarat on 5 February 2018.Al’s In Trouble was withdrawn by Trainer Mr David Graham at 10.27am on the morning of the race, due to illness. After taking evidence from Mr Graham, GRV Stewards issued a charge under GAR 23 (1) (a) in that Mr Graham failed to examine Al’s In Trouble prior to the appointed scratching time of 8.30am, on the day of the race, to ensure the greyhound was free of injury, illness or was on-season. Mr Graham pleaded guilty to the charge and was fined $200. When determining penalty, stewards took into consideration Mr Graham good record, guilty plea, his personnel antecedence and the forthright manner in which he conducted himself, before the Stewards. Against these factors, stewards considered the need for general deterrence and that a reserve was therefore denied a start in the race. Save for Mr Graham’s mitigating factors, the penalty for this offence would be nominally higher.

Alpanda, Gypsy Kiowa and Miami Fernando were quick to begin. Lake Lovin' and Limburg Patrick were slow to begin.

Gypsy Kiowa and Lake Lovin' collided on the first turn, checking both greyhounds. Blackpool Blast and Ohio Fernando collided on the first turn. Cash Chewing raced wide from the first turn and lost ground. Ohio Fernando checked off Blackpool Blast approaching the home turn, checking Lake Lovin'. Cash Chewing was vetted following the event. It was reported that the greyhound sustained shin soreness in the right hind leg. A ten-day stand down period was imposed.

Ms Mandy Shaw, kennel representative for Fawn Regrets, declared a new weight of 33.2kg for the greyhound in accordance with GAR 39(2). Fawn Regrets last raced at 34.7kg.

Dyna Winkler and Cookie Yap were quick to begin.

Little Fran and Romany Girl collided soon after the start, checking Romany Girl. On Trend and Fawn Regrets collided soon after the start, and again approaching the first turn, checking both greyhounds. Romany Girl crossed out and raced wide entering the home straight.

Stewards spoke to Mr. Paul Santoro, the trainer of Eltora, regarding the length of time the greyhound has had between races. Eltora last raced on 15/10/17. Mr. Santoro stated that the greyhound was returning to racing following injuries to both hocks.

Storm Train and Super Tokachi collided soon after the start, checking Super Tokachi. Emma's Sparrow contacted the running rail on the first turn and lost ground. Storm Train and How's It Burning collided approaching the home turn, checking How's It Burning. Eltora raced wide on the home turn and in the home straight.

Emma's Sparrow was vetted following the event. It was reported that the greyhound sustained a carpal sprain to the left wrist, abrasions to the left leg and a spike wound to the left hind leg. A 14-day stand down period was imposed.

Spring Saviour was vetted following the event. It was reported that the greyhound sustained split webbing on the left front foot. A 14-day stand down period was imposed.

Rapid Mission was vetted following the event. It was reported that the greyhound sustained no apparent injury.

Stewards spoke to Mr Callum Blake, the representative of Zip Zip Anna, regarding the length of time the greyhound has had between races. Zip Zip Anna last raced on 6 October 2017. Mr. Blake stated that the greyhound was returning to racing following a toe injury. Mr Blake also declared a new weight of 26.0kg for the greyhound in accordance with GAR 39(2). Zip Zip Anna last raced at 27.7kg. 

Riverdale Danger was quick to begin. Goldenpaw Lad was slow to begin.

Cullquin Abbey and Spring Time Miss collided on the first turn, checking Spring Time Miss.

MEETING COMMENTS

Satisfactory Trial Results - Miss Sweet Pea trialled over the 460m from box one, weight 27.9kg, the greyhound was placed first in a field of four. The time of the trial was 26.06, the greyhound won by a margin of 6.5L. Miss Sweet Pea was cleared.

Satisfactory Trial Results - Inga Red trialled over the 460m from box seven, weight 32.0kg, the greyhound was placed second in a field of four. The time of the trial was 26.06, the greyhound was beaten by a margin of 6.5L. Inga Red was cleared.

Satisfactory Trial Results - Miss Cheekiness trialled over the 400m from box three, weight 25.4kg, the greyhound was placed sixth in a field of six. The time of the trial was 22.51, the greyhound was beaten by a margin of 12.75L. Miss Cheekiness was cleared.

Satisfactory Trial Results - Dyna Carl trialled over the 400m from box four, weight 30.6kg, the greyhound was placed fifth in a field of six. The time of the trial was 22.51, the greyhound was beaten by a margin of 11.75L. Dyna Carl was cleared.

Satisfactory Trial Results - Lallybroch trialled over the 400m from box five, weight 23.4kg, the greyhound was placed fourth in a field of six. The time of the trial was 22.51, the greyhound was beaten by a margin of 11L. Lallybroch was cleared.

Satisfactory Trial Results - Zipping Zoe trialled over the 400m from box seven, weight 25.3kg, the greyhound was placed first in a field of six. The time of the trial was 22.51, the greyhound won by a margin of 5.25L. Zipping Zoe was cleared.

Satisfactory Trial Results (GAR 77A) - Stewards spoke to Mr Raymond Gatt, the trainer of Capo, regarding the length of time since the greyhound last raced. Capo last raced on 27 July 2017. Mr Gatt stated that the greyhound had sustained a right achilles injury. Pursuant to GAR 77A, Capo trialled over the 400m from box eight, weight 35.5kg, the greyhound was placed second in a field of six. The time of the trial was 22.51, the greyhound was beaten by a margin of 5.25L. Capo was cleared.
