Phil's My Bro and Aston Sundance were quick to begin.
Riccarton Weaver checked off Lewis Osti soon after the start. Toyman Tim checked off Amazing Roy approaching the first turn. Toyman Tim crossed out on the first turn and collided with Riccarton Weaver; Toyman Tim lost ground as a result. Mala Ruby and Aston Sundance collided approaching the home turn. Toyman Tim raced wide on the home turn.
Toyman Tim underwent a post–race veterinary examination and was found to have a left hindleg back muscle injury. A 14 day stand down period was imposed.
