Steward's Report
All staff & participants attending the race meeting wore face masks at all times when inside the kennel block and associated buildings, and when engaged in the exclusive race day functions of handling, boxing, starting and catching greyhounds.
In accordance with the GRV Hot Weather Policy, this meeting was deemed 'Heat Affected'. At the commencement of kennelling, the outside temperature was 19.0 degrees and the kennel temperature was 16.1 degrees. The Stewards continually monitored the temperature at the venue as per the GRV Hot Weather Policy.
Dusty Knight and My Annabelle were slow to begin.
Galiena Bale and Sand Iron collided at the 250m mark and again at the 200m mark. Especially Eager and Sand Iron collided at the 100m mark. Especially Eager visibly eased and turned its head outwards approaching the winning post. Sand Iron turned its head inwards approaching the winning post.
Especially Eager underwent a post-race veterinary examination and was found to have a spike wound to the left hind toe. A 3 day stand down period was imposed. Stewards spoke to Ms. Elise Knott, the representative regarding the greyhound’s racing manners approaching the winning post. Acting under the provisions of GAR 69A (1) Especially Eager was charged with failing to pursue the lure with due commitment. Ms. Knott pleaded guilty to the charge, Especially Eager was found guilty and suspended for 28 days at Healesville and must perform a Satisfactory Trial in accordance with GAR 69A (2)(a) and pursuant to GAR 72, before any future nomination will be accepted.
Sand Iron underwent a post-race veterinary examination and was re-examined following race 4 and was found to have a left thigh injury. A 5 day stand down period was imposed. Stewards spoke to representative, Mrs. Julie Chilcott regarding the greyhounds racing manners approaching the winning post. Acting under the provisions of GAR 69B (1), Sand Iron was charged with failing to pursue the lure with due commitment (by reason of injury). Mrs. Chilcott pleaded guilty to the charge, Sand Iron was found guilty and must perform a Satisfactory Trial in accordance with GAR 69B (1)(a) and pursuant to GAR 72, before any future nomination will be accepted.
