In accordance with the GRV Hot Weather Policy, this event was deemed Heat Affected.  The outside temperature when kennels opened was 23 degrees, the inside kennel temperature was 17 degrees.

The outside temperature prior to this event was 25 degrees, the inside kennel temperature immediately prior to this event when the greyhounds were retrieved was 17.9 degrees.

Big Holiday was a late scratching at 11:28am on the advice of the Club’s Veterinary Surgeon due to dehydration. No stand down period was imposed.

Stewards noted that Mr M. Johnson recently took over the training of the greyhound Banjo Plato.   Mr Johnson stated that he tried to change the greyhound's trainer using Fasttrack but because the greyhound was already engaged, he was unable to do so.  

All Inn Jye and Banjo Plato were slow to begin.

Titanium Springs and Gnal Gnal Girl collided at the 200m mark.

A pre-race sample was unable to be obtained from Titanium Springs a post race sample was subsequently taken.

A sample was taken from Banjo Plato - the winner of the event.

Shirdale Casey was slow to begin.

Aztec Warrior, Dirty Max and Parumba Ned collided soon after the start.  Tex Kingdom faltered at the 250m mark checking Dirty Max, Parumba Ned and Gypsy Kiowa, Tex Kingdom tailed off as a result.  Aztec Warrior and Dirty Max collided at the 150m mark.  

Tex Kingdom was vetted and after being re-vetted following event five, it was reported that the greyhound sustained injuries to the right monkey muscle and left hind triangle muscle, a 14 day stand down period was imposed.

A pre race sample was taken from Amlin Miss.

Ninetymile Hawk was slow to begin.

Superior Joyce faltered approaching the 250m mark and lost ground.  Doran's Grove crossed to the outside at the 100m mark checking Ninetymile Hawk which faltered and lost ground. 

Superior Joyce was vetted following the event.  It was reported that the greyhound sustained a right back muscle injury, a 60 day stand down period was imposed.

Ninetymile Hawk was vetted following the event.  It was reported that the greyhound sustained a right wrist injury, a 14 day stand down period was imposed.

Amy's Firework was a late scratching at 7:51am by order of Stewards.  A 10 day stand down period was imposed. 

The outside temperature prior to this event was 28 degrees, the inside kennel temperature immediately prior to this event when the greyhounds were retrieved was 18.3 degrees.

Woody's My Name was slow to begin.

Smoke Signals and Aston Hazard collided soon after the start.  Chill Out Isla and Cool Titanium collided approaching the 250m mark.  Cool Titanium, Woody's My Name and Aston Hazard collided at the 250m mark checking Cool Titanium, Woody's My Name, Aston Hazard and Chill Out Isla; Smoke Signals galloped on Woody's My Name as a result.  

Lightning Parade was quick to begin.  Mister Maker was slow to begin.

Johnnie Red and Sweet Strike collided soon after the start.  Mac Daddy, Johnnie Red and Sweet Strike collided at the 300m mark.  Mac Daddy and Johnnie Red collided at the 200m mark.  Just Jimmy checked off Sweet Strike at the 150m mark.  Mac Daddy and Just Jimmy collided at the 100m mark.  Mac Daddy checked off Sweet Strike at the 50m mark.

Miss Booming was quick to begin.

Miss Booming crossed to the rail soon after the start.  

Lights Of Tanjil stumbled soon after the start.  Rosta Power and Zade's Magic collided soon after the start.  Courage Crest, Rosta Power and Zade's Magic collided at the 200m mark checking Rosta Power and Zade's Magic.  Lights Of Tanjil and New Fire Girl collided at the 150m mark checking both greyhounds.  Rosta Power, Zade's Magic and Cataleya collided at the 50m mark.  

Stewards noted the last start weight recorded on FastTrack for Placid Murphy was incorrectly input at 29.1kg. The correct weight of 29.5kg was recorded on the weight card.

The outside temperature prior to this event was 30 degrees, the inside kennel temperature immediately prior to this event when the greyhounds were retrieved was 19.1 degrees.

Master Winslow was slow to begin.

Placid Murphy and Challis Annie collided at the 300m mark.  Karaka and Lucky Paws collided at 250m mark.  Campeon and Placid Murphy collided at the 250m mark.  Lucky Paws and Aston Jewel collided at the 200m mark checking Aston Jewel.  Karaka checked off Lucky Paws approaching the 150m mark.  Karaka and Aston Jewel collided approaching the winning post.  Campeon and Karaka collided approaching the winning post checking Campeon.  

Master Winslow was vetted following the event.  It was reported that there was no apparent injury found.

Stewards spoke to Mr. R. Proctor, the trainer of the greyhound Master Winslow.   Acting under GAR 75 (1) Stewards directed Mr Proctor to report as soon as practicable anything that may have affected the running of Master Winslow in the event which was not noted by Stewards during or immediately after the event.

Supplementary Report 26/2/19.

Mr R Proctor trainer of Master Winslow reported to Stewards on the 26/2/19 that the Greyhound had sustained  a right shoulder injury.

Stewards spoke to Mr P. Stefanos, the representative of Blue Magoo regarding the length of time the greyhound has had between races.  Blue Magoo last raced on 8th November 2018.  Mr Stefanos stated that the greyhound was resuming from a right monkey muscle injury.

A pre race sample was taken from Blue Magoo.

Blue Magoo and Samba King were slow to begin.

Early Storm checked off Going In Style at the 250m mark checking Midnight Muscat.

A sample was taken from Early Storm - the winner of the event.

Pursuant to GAR 104 (7) steward Ms D. Barber did not act in any official capacity for this event.

Subscapularis was slow to begin.

Gunmetal Liam crossed to the rail soon after the start.  Slipaway Bolt and Subscapularis collided approaching the 200m mark.  Subscapularis crossed to the outside at the 200m mark and raced wide for the remainder of the event.

Pistol was vetted following the event.  It was reported that the greyhound sustained injuries to the right back, right monkey and right deltoid muscles, a 60 day stand down period was imposed.

A pre race sample was taken from Rhomboid.

The outside temperature prior to this event was 31.5 degrees, the inside kennel temperature immediately prior to this event when the greyhounds were retrieved was 19.4 degrees.

Rhomboid was slow to begin.

Peter Yap and Line Trike collided at the 250m mark.  Bring The Spring checked off Line Trike at the 100m mark.

Meeting Comments

Stewards opened and finalised an inquiry into the circumstances of the transport used to convey greyhounds to Healesville today. Stewards issued a charge to Mr C. Russell under GAR 86 (ag) for failing to comply with a policy adopted by the Controlling Body in that Mr Russell transported greyhounds, All Inn Jye, All In Tyler, Sweet Strike and Miss Booming, in a vehicle that was not air-conditioned, contrary to the GRV Transport Policy for Hot Weather affected meetings. Mr Russell pleaded not guilty, Stewards found Mr Russell guilty as charged and issued him with a $250 fine. In determining a penalty stewards considered Mr Russell's length of time in the industry, cooperation with Stewards and previous similar offences by others.
