Steward's Report
Meeting Comments:
Supplementary Stewards Report - Shepparton GRA, Thursday 21 June 2018:
On Monday 9 July, 2018, Stewards concluded an inquiry into the conduct of licensed trainer Mr. Lachlan Scott at the Shepparton GRA meeting on Thursday 21 June 2018. On the 21 June 2018 Stewards took evidence from Club Officials Mr. Graham Glass and Mr. Bernard Groom, and Club Manager Mr. Carl McGrath. During today’s inquiry Stewards heard evidence from Mr. Scott. After considering the evidence Stewards issued a charge to Mr. Scott under GAR 86 (q). The specifics of the charge were that on Thursday 21 June 2018, during the Shepparton GRA race meeting, Mr. Scott engaged in conduct that was detrimental and prejudicial to the interests and control of greyhound racing by using offensive and insulting language towards club officials. Mr. Scott pleaded guilty to the charge. A fine of $500 was imposed, with $250 of that wholly suspended for 12 months pending no further breaches of a similar nature.
In determining penalty, Stewards took into account Mr. Scott’s forthright evidence, guilty plea, and good record in relation to this rule, as well as recent penalty precedents. In addition, Stewards were mindful of the nature of the incident and the need to deter both Mr. Scott and other participants from behaving in a similar manner in future. Stewards note that officials have a right to conduct their duties without being subjected to offensive language, and that misconduct of any nature is not acceptable within the greyhound industry.
