A pre-race urine sample was taken from Select All.
Wise Lewis and Spandau Ballet were slow to begin.
Our Rock Man and Strawberry Swirl collided soon after the start. Rocket Jax and Tiger Dusty collided soon after the start. Wise Lewis cheeked off Select All soon after the start. Wise Lewis and Tiger Dusty collided approaching the first turn. Rocket Jax checked off Our Rock Man approaching the first turn. Foxzami Thriller, Select All, Our Rock man and Strawberry Swirl collided on the first turn checking Our Rock man, Strawberry Swirl, Select All, Rocket Jax and Tiger Dusty. Foxzami Thriller crossed out approaching the second turn checking Our Rocket Man. Strawberry Swirl checked off Wise Lewis approaching the second turn. Tiger Dusty, Rocket Jax and Select All collided entering the back straight severely checking Rocket Jax. Spandau Ballet checked off Strawberry Swirl approaching the home turn checking Tiger Dusty causing Spandau Ballet to tail off. Foxzami Thriller raced wide approaching the home turn. Strawberry Swirl and Tiger Dusty collided approaching the home turn and again on the home turn checking Strawberry Swirl.
Spandau Ballet underwent a post-race veterinary examination and was re-examined following race 9. Spandau Ballet was found to have a right monkey muscle and left chest muscle injuries. A 14 day stand down period was imposed.
Stewards spoke to Mrs J. Sharp, the trainer of Spandau Ballet regarding its performance approaching the home turn. Stewards deemed the performance unsatisfactory, acting in accordance with GAR 71, Spandau Ballet must perform a Satisfactory Trial (all tracks) before any future nomination will be accepted.
