Steward's Report
Stewards spoke to Mr Aaron Campbell, the trainer of Caramel Opal, regarding the length of time the greyhound has had between races. Caramel Opal last raced on 25 March, 2018 and is returning to racing following an illness (acidosis).
Sports Knight was slow to begin.
Striking Gold and Amlin Freddie collided soon after the start. Just Blacky and Samba King collided soon after the start. Just Blacky and Caramel Opal collided approaching the 300m mark. Scooby Boy and Samba King collided at the 300m mark and again at the 250m mark. Caramel Opal eased at the 200m mark and collided with Scooby Boy and Samba King; Caramel Opal continued to ease on several occasions to the winning post. Striking Gold checked off Sports Knight approaching the winning post.
Stewards spoke to Mr Aaron Campbell, the trainer of the greyhound Caramel Opal, regarding the greyhound’s racing manners from the 200m mark to the winning post. Caramel Opal was vetted following the event. It was reported that the greyhound sustained injuries to the left shoulder muscle, a five-day stand down period was imposed. Acting under GAR 69(B)(1), the stewards charged Caramel Opal with failing to pursue the lure with due commitment (by reason of injury). Mr Campbell pleaded guilty to the charge, Caramel Opal was found guilty and stewards directed that the greyhound perform a Satisfactory Trial (all tracks) pursuant to GAR 69(B)(1)(a), before any future nomination will be accepted.
