Major Curly, Jockey Bale and Perfect Rider were slow to begin. Fiery Nell and Bourbon An Kahn collided soon after the start. Schusta and Major Curly collided approaching the 300m mark and again at the 300m mark, severely checking Major Curly which stumbled. Fiery Nell and Bourbon An Kahn collided at the 300m mark. Acey Boy faltered at the 300m mark and tailed off. Xan Mai, Fiery Nell and Bourbon An Kahn collided approaching the 250m mark, checking Fiery Nell, Bourbon An Kahn, Perfect Rider, Jockey Bale and Schusta. Perfect Rider and Bourbon An Kahn collided several times from the 200m mark until the 150m mark, checking Perfect Rider, Bourbon An Kahn, Jockey Bale and Schusta.
