Steward's Report
In accordance with the GRV Hot Weather Policy, the Shepparton (Twilight) Meeting for Thursday 22 February was marked as 'Hot Weather Affected' due to the forecasted temperature of 32 degrees. At the close of kennelling the outside temperature was 27.6 degrees (with a forecasted top of 28.0) and the kennel temperature was 18.4 degrees Consequently, Stewards, in accordance with Section 31 of the Hot Weather Policy, dispensed with the additional race meeting requirements.
Stewards spoke to Mr Ronald Wilkinson, the representative of Windy Lane, regarding the length of time the greyhound has had between races. Windy Lane last raced on 10 November 2017. Mr Wilkinson stated that the greyhound was returning to racing following a seasonal spell.
Macs Model and Movie Icon were quick to begin. Marley Moo and Keisha's Boy were slow to begin. Kraken Pace and Windy Lane collided soon after the start, checking Kraken Pace. Kraken Pace, Winlock Homes and Marley Moo collided on the first turn, checking Kraken Pace. Movie Icon crossed to the rail approaching the home turn, checking Macs Model, and severely checking Windy Lane. Winlock Homes and Macs Model collided approaching the home turn, causing Winlock Homes to stumble, and severely checking Macs Model and Marley Moo. Windy Lane and Macs Model collided on the home turn, checking Macs Model.
Windy Lane was vetted following the event. It was reported that the greyhound sustained a minor spike wound to the right hindleg toe. No stand down period was imposed.
