Maximum Speed was vetted following the event after being observed to faulter and fall in the catching pen at the completion of this race. It was reported that the greyhound had sustained a distal fracture to the left radius and was humanely euthanased.

Morrigan Ailis and Jakesta collided several times on the home turn. Derivation eased on the home turn. Derivation raced ungenerously in the home straight.

Abyssal was vetted following the event. It was reported that the greyhound sustained an injury to the left hamstring. A five-day stand down period was imposed.

Stewards spoke to Mr Shaw, the kennel representative of Derivation, regarding the greyhound’s racing manners on the home turn and in the home straight. Derivation was vetted following the event. It was reported that the greyhound sustained an injury to the left gracilis (back) muscle, a five-day stand down period was imposed. Acting under GAR 69(B)(1), the stewards charged Derivation with failing to pursue the lure with due commitment (by reason of injury) on the home turn. Mr Shaw pleaded not guilty to the charge, Derivation was found guilty and stewards directed that the greyhound perform a Satisfactory Trial (all tracks) pursuant to GAR 69(B)(1)(a), before any future nomination will be accepted. The  Stewards also note their concerns with the racing manners of Derivation in the home straight and issued a warning as a result.

Fiery Starlet was quick to begin. Tegxcellent was slow to begin.

Cruising Amber and Why Not Kylie collided approaching the first turn. Sisco Mama checked off the heels of Fiery Starlet approaching the home turn. Tegxcellent raced wide on the home turn. Sisco Blast faded in the home straight.

Sisco Blast was vetted following the event. It was reported that the greyhound sustained no apparent injury and as such, no stand down period was imposed. Stewards questioned Mr John Galea, trainer of Sisco Blast, regarding the poor performance today which also led into a discussion about the ongoing poor form of Sisco Blast who may not be suited to a racing environment anymore. Mr Galea advised that he is considering Sisco Blast's racing future and is considering his retirement from racing after assessing how he pulls up from this run. Whilst the Stewards were content to leave this in Mr Galea hands but cautioned that a repeat of a similar poor showing will result in a satisfactory trial being imposed with time-based thresholds to ensure that Sisco Blast can compete to a satisfactory level. Effectively, Stewards issued a warning for the poor performance on this occasion.

MEETING COMMENTS

Satisfactory Trial Results - Hedwig trialled over 460m from box one, weight 35.4kg, the greyhound was placed third in a field of four. The time of the trial was 26.12, the greyhound was beaten by a margin of 1.5L. Hedwig was cleared. Mr Ian Cockerell, trainer of Hedwig, declared a new weight of 35.4kg for the greyhound in accordance with GAR 39(2). Hedwig last raced at 34.2kg.

Satisfactory Trial Results - Express Chain trialled over 460m from box six, weight 26.9kg, the greyhound was placed second in a field of four. The time of the trial was 26.12, the greyhound was beaten by a margin of 1.25L. Express Chain was cleared.
