Heavy Pockets was slow to begin. Maximum Dos, My Dolly Molly ad Spring Kitty collided soon after the start, checking My Dolly Molly and Spring Kitty. Spring Kitty and Heavy Pockets collided approaching the first turn, checking Spring Kitty and My Dolly Molly. Brace For Impact and Maximum Dos collided on the first turn. Swift Trent and Miss Just Under collided on the first turn, checking Miss Just Under and Heavy Pockets. Maximum Dos checked off Swift Trent on the home turn.

Satisfactory Trial Results (GAR 77A) - Stewards spoke to Mr G Campbell, the trainer of Pop Do It, regarding the length of time since the greyhound last raced. Pop Do It last raced on 4 October 2016. Mr Campbell stated that the greyhound was returning to racing following a groin injury. Pursuant to GAR 77A, Pop Do It trialled over the 400m from box one, weight 33.7 kgs, the greyhound was placed first in a field of four. The time of the trial was 22:69, the greyhound won by a margin of 3.25 lengths. Pop Do It was Cleared.

Myrniong Plow last raced on 9 September 2016. Mr Dyett stated that the greyhound was returning to racing following a change of kennels. Pursuant to GAR 77A, Myrniong Plow trialled over the 400m from box three, weight 33.9 kgs, the greyhound was placed fourth in a field of four. The time of the trial was 22:69, the greyhound was beaten by a margin of 7.55 lengths. Myrniong Plow was Cleared.
Mr C Dyett, trainer of Myrniong Plow, declared a new weight of 33.9 kgs for the greyhound in accordance with GAR 39(2). Myrniong Plow last raced at 32.2 kgs.
