Stewards spoke to Mr G.George, the trainer of Smart Action regarding the length of time the greyhound has had between races.  Smart Action last raced on 27 October 2016. Mr George stated that the greyhound was resuming racing following an extended spell.

Tear Away Socks was quick to begin. Intensify and Slipaway Robbie collided soon after the start. Pretty Boy Grigg and Bulldog Warrior collided approaching the first turn, checking Bulldog Warrior and Intensify, and severely checking Slipaway Robbie, which faltered and pulled up. Pretty Boy Grigg and Drysdale Doll collided on the home turn. Drysdale Doll and Tear Away Socks collided in the home straight. Pretty Boy Grigg and Tear Away Socks collided approaching the winning post.

Slipaway Robbie was vetted following the event. It was reported that the greyhound sustained a fractured right hock, and was humanely euthanased.

Mr. M.Delbridge, trainer of Zambora Beau declared a new weight of 30.9kg for the greyhound in accordance with GAR 39(2). Zambora Beau last raced at 32.3kg.

City And Colour was vetted following the event. It was reported that the greyhound sustained an injury to the right thigh, a 10 day stand down period was imposed. 

Stewards spoke to Mr. S. Coulson, the handler of the greyhound City And Colour regarding the greyhounds racing manners on the first turn.  Acting under GAR 69(A)(1) stewards charged City And Colour with failing to pursue the lure with due commitment. Mr. Coulson pleaded guilty to the charge, City And Colour was found guilty and suspended for 28 days at Warrnambool and it was directed that the greyhound perform a Satisfactory Trial (all tracks), pursuant to GAR 69(A)(2)(a) before any future nomination will be accepted.

Steward’s issued a warning to Ms. R. Sprague after she failed to fulfill her catching obligations for the  greyhound Karise Fusilee.

This race was delayed by approximately 2 minutes due to a lighting malfunction at the 390mtr boxes.

Satisfactory Trial Results - Mepunga Ted trialled over the 390m from box five, weight 32.7kg, the greyhound was placed first in a field of four. The time of the trial was 22.24, the greyhound won by a margin of 3.5 lengths. Mepunga Ted was Cleared. 

Satisfactory Trial Results (Blinkers)  - Lara's Lament trialled over the 390m from box eight, weight 26.1kg, the greyhound was placed third in a field of four. The time of the trial was 22.24, the greyhound was beaten by a margin of 7 lengths. Lara's Lament was Cleared To Race In Blinkers.
